Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein‘ and ‘Jay Kelly’โค Set for Sรฃo Paulo Mostra International Film Festival
SรO PAULO, BRAZIL – Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated “Frankenstein” and the Brazilian fiction film “Jay Kelly” are โคconfirmed selections for the 2025 Sรฃo Pauloโข Mostra International โFilm Festival, marking the festival’s third year โof official partnership with Netflix. The streaming giant willโ award โa prizeโ toโ one Brazilian โfiction filmโค from the festival that hasn’t yet landed a streaming deal, later making the winning โfilm available in over โข190โ countries.
The Mostra, which first hosted โคNetflix with Alfonso Cuarรณn’s “Roma” in 2018, has become a key platform for boosting the global reach of โBrazilian storytelling.In 2023, Netflix awarded it’sโค prize to Haroldo Borges’ “Bittersweetโฃ Rain” (“Saudade Fez Morada Aqui โขDentro”), and in 2024, honored โฃLรญrio Ferreira’sโ “Serra das Almas.” Borges noted the impact of the Netflix deal, stating, “‘Saudade Fezโฃ Morada aqui Dentro’ on Netflix makes that word โof mouth โpossible.”
This year, Netflix will โalso showcase three original productions at the festival: “Piano Lesson” (U.S.), “Pedro Pรกramo” (Mรฉxico), and the Brazilian limited series “Children ofโฃ the Churchโข Steps.” โThe selection of “Jay Kelly” as a Brazilian fiction film in competition positions it as a potential recipient of the Netflix award, offering significant international exposure.
