Zelda Williams is asking people to stop sending her AI-generated videos of her late father, Robin Williams.
As AI becomes more mainstream, AI-generated videos of celebrities who have passed away have been trending on social media platforms in recent weeks. Viral videos of Robin Williams have been shared with her daughter, who recently posted on Instagram that she doesnโt want to see them.
โPlease, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that Iโll understand, I donโt and I wonโt,โ Zelda posted on her Instagram Stories. โIf youโre just trying to troll me, Iโve seen way worse, Iโll restrict and move on. But please, if youโve got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. Itโs dumb, itโs a waste of time and energy, and believe me, itโs NOT what heโd want.โ
AI-generated videos of Michael Jackson, alongside those of other legendary actors and singers who have passed away, have been circulating on social media. Zelda finds the content being generated using AI โgrossโ and โmaddening.โ
โTo watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to โthis vaguely looks and sounds like them so thatโs enough,โ just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening,โ Zelda continued. โYouโre not making art, youโre making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone elseโs throat hoping theyโll give you a little thumbs up and like it. Gross.โ
In a second Instagram Story post, Zelda added, โAnd for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it โthe future.โ AI is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.โ
