RI State Police Arrest Driver in Thanksgiving Eve Crash that Claimed Johnston Woman’s Life
Cranston, RI – A Providence man is in custody following a fatal single-vehicle crash on Route 295 South in cranston on Wednesday, November 27th, that resulted in the death of a 23-year-old Johnston resident. The Rhode Island State Police arrested Juan archila, 43, and charged him with Driving to Endanger – Death Resulting.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:40 PM near the Plainfield Pike exit.Authorities allege Archila‘s vehicle forced a Honda Accord, driven by Casey Bassignani, off the highway and into the center median, where it collided with a tree. Bassignani was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. This arrest brings a measure of accountability in the wake of a tragic loss during the Thanksgiving holiday, and underscores the dangers of reckless driving. Archila is currently held on $50,000 surety bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions and is scheduled for a bail review hearing on Friday, November 29th, in Third District Court.
According to witness statements, Bassignani’s Honda Accord was traveling in the high-speed lane when it was impacted by another vehicle. Following the crash, troopers from the Scituate Barracks responded to the scene and initiated an examination.Archila was later located and taken into custody without incident.
