Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – Boomtown Mainz: In a study, the Biontech location defends its place as the most dynamic city in Germany and, given the current situation, is getting closer to the leader Munich. This emerges from the city ranking published on Thursday by IW Consult on behalf of the Internet portal Immoscout24 and “Wirtschaftswoche”. Last year, Mainz also benefited from the success of the corona vaccine manufacturer Biontech in terms of tax revenue.

“It remains to be seen whether the city will manage to increase the attractiveness of the location in the long term and establish itself in the top 5,” said ImmoScout24 managing director Gesa Crockford.

During the annual study, the current situation (level) and rates of change (dynamics) of various indicators in 71 independent cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants are compared. Factors such as economic structure, labor market, real estate and quality of life are analyzed. An additional sustainability index includes economic, ecological and social factors.

Berlin and Leipzig are among the dynamic cities

In the level ranking, which describes the economic and social situation, Bavaria’s capital Munich has defended the top spot in the analysis since 2013, while Mainz worked its way up to second place. In addition to the metropolises of Stuttgart (3) and Frankfurt am Main (8), Erlangen, Ingolstadt, Wolfsburg, Darmstadt as well as Ulm and Regensburg also landed in the top ten. As in the previous year, Hamburg was in 11th place, Düsseldorf followed in 13th place. Cologne and Berlin were in 31st and 38th place. As in the previous year, the Ruhr area cities of Herne, Duisburg and Gelsenkirchen were at the bottom.

When it comes to dynamics, Berlin and Leipzig rank behind leaders Mainz. Kaiserslautern jumped from 22nd place to 4th place in the evaluation, followed by Düsseldorf (5th). Hamburg improved significantly from 42 to 6th place. Munich and Cologne came in 9th and 7th place. In the large metropolises, the dynamic assessment is, according to the information, primarily driven by the real estate market and the development of rents. Ludwigshafen, Ingolstadt and Hagen ended up at the bottom of the ranking.

Heidelberg scores with research institutes

In the sustainability index, Heidelberg displaces the Autostadt Wolfsburg from the top spot to third place. The university city on the Neckar is particularly forward-looking and scores points, among other things, with research institutes such as a center of the Max Planck Society and an efficient digital infrastructure, the study said. Ingolstadt improved to second place. Erlangen remained in fourth place, followed by Ulm. The last three places in the evaluation still went to Herne, Duisburg and Gelsenkirchen.

How are Germany’s major cities doing in terms of economic strength, labor market or sustainability? According to a study, one city in particular stands out this year.

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – Boomtown Mainz: In a study, the Biontech location defends its place as the most dynamic city in Germany and, given the current situation, is getting closer to the leader in Munich. Offenbach (dpa/lrs) – According to preliminary data from the German Weather Service (DWD), Rhineland-Palatinate was one of the warmest federal states in October. An average of “unusually high” 12.1 degrees Celsius was measured, the DWD announced on Monday in Offenbach. That was 2.9 degrees more than in the internationally valid reference period from 1961 to 1990. In addition, the second month of autumn was comparatively wet: 100 liters of precipitation fell per square meter, which was 37 liters more than the long-term average. Nevertheless, the sun shone for around 115 hours (105 hours).

Nationwide, the month is one of the five warmest Octobers since measurements began in 1881. According to the DWD, the average temperature was 11.9 degrees, which is 2.9 degrees above the value for the reference period 1961 to 1990. In comparison compared to the current and warmer comparison period from 1991 to 2020, the deviation was plus 2.5 degrees.
