Sugar, iconicโค 90s choice rock band fronted by Bob Mould, has announced its return with a newโ song – their first in 30 years – and aโฃ limited run of concerts in New York and London. The band, known for its blistering energy โand emotionally rawโค songwriting,โ will perform at Webster Hall inโ New Yorkโฃ City on May 2nd and 3rd, followed by shows atโ Kentish Town Forum in London on may 23rd and 24th.
The reunion marks a significant moment for fans of the influential band, who disbanded โin โ1995 after releasing three critically acclaimed albums: Copper Blue, Beaster, andโ File under:โ Easy Listening. while the members briefly reconvened around their 20th anniversary in โ2011, Mould โฃexplained toโข Rolling Stone, “weโ all walked awayโข thinking, ‘Eh, notโฃ right now.'” โขThe new single, and โsubsequentโ decision to play shows,โข came after regrouping in the studio last year. Mould stated, “But the riff โขis โdefinitely a Sugar-type riff,โ and it wasโข fun to get the three of usโค on the โขfloor together to record for the โfirst time in ages.”
The band’s futureโ activity willโ be guided by the response โคto the newโ music and shows, according to Mould. “I don’tโ want to get out โtoo โคfar in front of the skis, as they say. People’s reactions willโฃ probablyโ guide a lot ofโฃ the possibilities in front of us, whether it’s more โsongs โขorโค moreโค shows. All โฃthree โof us areโ all โขin for whatever feels right. I just want to seeโค if people are still interested.”
Alongside the reunion โฃdeclaration, โa 4xLP reissue of Sugar’s โคdebut album, Copper โคBlue – The Singles Collection, is slated for release โnext month forโ Record Store Day. A Hรผsker Dรผ live โbox set, 1985: The Miracle Year, is also due out โขnext month.
