Ari โคAster‘s โฃcritically acclaimed film, Eddington, will debut on HBO Max on Friday, โNovember 14, โwith a linear television premiere โขscheduled forโค saturday, Novemberโค 15 โคat 8 pm ET. The A24โฃ release, which received a standing ovation at the โขCannesโ Film Festival earlier this year, offers a stark satirical look at the societal fractures exposed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Eddington stars Joaquin phoenix adn Pedroโฃ pascal in a genre-bending โstory set in Eddington, Newโ Mexico, where a standoff between a small-town sheriff andโ mayor ignites tensions within the community. The film’s timely arrival on streaming comes as audiences continue โtoโ grapple โwithโข the lasting impacts of the pandemic โand the rise of extremist โideologies, making it a relevant โฃand potentially provocative viewing experience.
The cast also includesโ Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal โขWard,โฃ Amรฉlie Hoeferle,โ Cliftonโ Collins Jr., Williamโฃ Belleau, Austinโ Butler, and Emmaโค Stone.
According to Deadline’s review,โ Damon Wise lauded Aster’s willingness to confront challenging themes, stating the film presentsโฃ “a slice of history thatโ weโค have โyetโข to see properly shown onโค film, โคeven though it happened only five years ago.” Wise further wroteโ that Eddington “rips the Band-Aid off” to expose the damage โcausedโ by โคgroups โฃlike QAnon, 4Chan,โ and the Proud Boys, arguing their impact surpassed even that of theโข virusโฃ itself.
Aster wrote and directed Eddington, which was financed and produced by A24. โHe produced the film alongside Lars โKnudsenโ under their Square Peg banner.
