TVS Motor Indonesia Reaches 1 Million Unit Production Milestone | Exports Surge

by Priya Shah – Business Editor February 21, 2026

Karawang, Indonesia – TVS Motor Company Indonesia has reached a significant milestone, producing its one millionth vehicle at its manufacturing facility in Karawang, West Java. The achievement, announced on Thursday, February 19, 2026, marks a substantial contribution to Indonesia’s automotive industry and expands the Indian manufacturer’s global production footprint.

The one million units produced encompass both two-wheeled and three-wheeled vehicles, catering to both the domestic Indonesian market and export destinations across Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, according to a statement from the Directorate General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics (ILMATE).

“PT TVS Motor Company Indonesia has demonstrated a strong commitment to strengthening the national automotive industry through continuous investment, increased exports, and compliance with industry regulations,” stated Setia Diarta, Director General of ILMATE. The company began operations in Indonesia in 2007, establishing a fully integrated manufacturing facility in Karawang.

Since commencing commercial production, TVS Motor Company Indonesia has invested USD 250 million (approximately Rp 4.12 trillion) in its Indonesian operations. This investment has not only created hundreds of direct jobs but has as well generated economic benefits for an estimated 8,000 indirect workers through its network of distributors, suppliers, contractors, and service providers.

The Karawang plant now serves as a key global production base for TVS Motor Company, alongside its facilities in India and the United Kingdom. Approximately 95% of the vehicles produced at the Indonesian facility are two-wheelers, with the remaining 5% being three-wheelers, according to a regulatory filing.

TVS Motor Company’s success in Indonesia is also linked to its adherence to local content requirements. The company has met the necessary Tingkat Komponen Dalam Negeri (TKDN) standards, enabling its products to participate in government procurement programs at both the national and regional levels. For example, TVS recently supplied 700 three-wheeled motorcycles for a cooperative development program, Percepatan Pembangunan Fisik Gerai, Pergudangan dan Perlengkapan Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih, through a partnership with PT Agrinas.

The Indonesian two-wheeled vehicle market remains robust, with sales exceeding 6.4 million units in 2025, representing a 1.3% increase compared to 2024. Exports also contributed significantly, reaching approximately 540,000 completely built-up (CBU) units with a total export value of Rp 10.5 trillion, according to ILMATE data.

TVS Motor Company currently operates 49 dealerships across Indonesia, strategically located in Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. The company reported a 49% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the December quarter, reaching ₹841 crore (approximately USD 9.5 million) compared to ₹566 crore in the same period the previous year.

Rio Carnival 2026: Dates, Parades & Controversies | Brazil Travel Guide

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor February 18, 2026
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival celebrations kicked off on Friday with a parade featuring a giant robotic float depicting Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a tribute that has sparked both enthusiastic support and sharp criticism.

The float, presented by the Unidos da Vila Isabel samba school, showcased a towering robot resembling Lula, adorned in the colors of the Brazilian flag. The display was intended as an homage to the president, who assumed office in January 2023, marking a return to power after previously serving two terms from 2003 to 2010. The parade’s opening act immediately drew attention, becoming a focal point of discussion during the first night of the annual festivities.

However, the tribute has not been without controversy. Experts have raised concerns that the overtly political display could potentially violate electoral laws, as Brazil prepares for municipal elections later this year. According to legal analysts, the parade could be construed as an unauthorized campaign endorsement, potentially leading to legal challenges. Folha de S.Paulo reported that the display poses a risk of electoral conviction.

The samba school’s decision to honor Lula has also resulted in repercussions within the Carnival competition itself. Público reported that Unidos da Vila Isabel has been relegated to the second group of Carnival parades for the following year. The demotion, announced after the initial parades, is believed to be linked to the perceived political bias of their presentation and its impact on the competition’s neutrality.

The float and the subsequent reaction highlight the deeply polarized political climate in Brazil. Whereas supporters view the tribute as a celebration of Lula’s leadership and a symbol of hope, critics accuse the samba school of using the Carnival platform for partisan political messaging. The incident has fueled debate about the appropriate boundaries between artistic expression and electoral regulations during a sensitive political period.

Despite the controversy, the Carnival celebrations continue to draw millions of visitors to Rio de Janeiro, showcasing Brazil’s vibrant culture and traditions. The parade featuring the Lula robot remains a central talking point, underscoring the intersection of politics, art, and popular culture in the country.
