San โJuan, Puerto โRico – Daddy Yankee has filed a federal โlawsuit againstโ music producer Raphy Pina and his former wife, Mireddys Gonzรกlez, alleging a scheme to defraud him out of royalties, according to court โคdocuments.Teh lawsuit โcenters โฃaround accusations โขof intimidation, violence, and manipulationโข of song authorship credits to โdivert funds.
The complaint details allegationsโ that โPina Nieves, โฃwhile controlling El Cartel Records, โusedโ “physical intimidation tactics and acts of violence to โฃmaintain control โคof the artists.” lawyers โfor Daddy Yankee assert that Pina “routinely โคpulled out โขfirearms during meetings to reinforce his dominance โคand to discourage dissent, in addition to humiliating or physically attacking individuals in the presence of third parties to use them as โanโฃ example.” They further claim Pina cultivated “an habitat ofโฃ constant โthreat, ensuring that artists and associates remained obedient out of โfearโ for their safetyโค and well-being.”
Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that between 2004 and 2005, โคindividualsโ actingโค on Pina Nieves’ orders used firearms to intimidate and attack Juan A. Ortiz Garcรญa, known as Sir Speedy. โ
Theโฃ legal action also claims Pina โคand Gonzรกlez coordinated to falsely claim co-authorship of multiple songs, assigning themselves percentages ofโค royalties.Evidence โคcited includes emails allegedly showing thisโ coordination. Hundreds โof emailsโข were reportedly deletedโ from Gonzรกlez castellanos’ account, which โthe lawsuit suggests contained evidence โฃofโฃ the alleged scheme.
