written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Indonesia’s Archipelago International is launching “Blessings of Ramadan,” a promotional campaign offering discounts and packages at its 124 hotels across Indonesia, beginning February 20th and running through March 31st, 2026. The initiative aims to provide enhanced experiences for travelers during the holy month, according to a company statement.

The campaign includes a 30% discount on room rates at all 124 Archipelago hotels, available for bookings made between February 20th and March 22nd, 2026. Sixty-seven hotels are offering specifically tailored Ramadan Room Packages, designed to include amenities such as sahur (pre-dawn meal) and iftar (rapid-breaking meal), alongside other benefits. Eighty-eight hotels will feature Iftar Packages, offering diverse culinary options for breaking the fast with family and friends.

In addition to stay and dining options, 29 Archipelago hotels will offer curated Ramadan Hampers filled with premium delicacies, intended as gifts for family, friends and business associates. The company highlighted the importance of sharing and giving during Ramadan as a key inspiration for the hampers.

“Ramadan is a moment filled with togetherness and meaning,” said Chris Legaspi, Chief Commercial Officer of Archipelago. “Through Blessings of Ramadan, Archipelago presents a series of curated offerings designed to support guests’ needs throughout the holy month, from stay experiences to moments of iftar and sharing. We hope this initiative provides comfort and convenience, enabling guests to observe the holy month with greater devotion while enjoying quality time with family and loved ones.”

The offers are exclusively available through https://bit.ly/Blessingssoframadan. Further information can be found at www.archipelagohotels.com and on the company’s Instagram account, @archipelagointernational.

The launch of the “Blessings of Ramadan” campaign comes as some communities in Indonesia continue to recover from recent flooding. In Sumatra and Aceh, flood survivors are observing Ramadan in emergency tents, according to reports from The Jakarta Post. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has dispatched preachers to remote islands throughout the archipelago to provide religious guidance during the month of Ramadan, as reported by RRI.co.id.

Ramadan 2026: Predicting the Start Date with Science & Hilal Criteria

by Emma Walker – News Editor February 14, 2026
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Indonesia is bracing for a potential split in the start of Ramadan 2026, not due to observational challenges, but because of differing criteria used to determine the beginning of the Islamic holy month. The disagreement centers on the application of “local” versus “global” hilal (crescent moon) sighting standards, according to officials at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the majority of Islamic organizations in the country adhere to the “local” hilal criteria, known as MABIMS. This standard requires the hilal to be visible in Indonesia with a minimum height of 3 degrees and an elongation of 6.4 degrees. Muhammadiyah, one of Indonesia’s largest Islamic organizations, employs a “global” hilal criteria. This principle dictates that if the new moon meets visibility criteria anywhere on Earth, and the conjunction occurs before dawn in New Zealand, Ramadan has begun.

Astronomical data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts the geosentric conjunction – when the Moon and Sun align – will occur on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 7:01 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB). However, at that time across Indonesia, the hilal will remain below the horizon, with altitudes ranging from -2.41° in Jayapura to -0.93° in West Sumatra. The moon’s age will likewise be negative, indicating the hilal has not yet “born” at sunset.

those following the local hilal criteria are expected to complete the month of Sha’ban with 30 days, placing the first day of Ramadan 1447 H on February 19, 2026. Conversely, proponents of the global hilal criteria point to visibility in locations like Alaska, United States, on February 17th. Because the conjunction occurred before dawn in New Zealand and the hilal was considered “existent” globally, they are likely to commence Ramadan on February 18, 2026, according to BRIN’s Coordinator of Astronomy and the Center for Space Research, Professor Thomas Djamaluddin.

For those awaiting the Indonesian government’s official announcement following the isbat (confirmation) session, observation (rukyatul hilal) will be conducted on the evening of February 18, 2026. At that time, BMKG data indicates the hilal will be significantly more visible, reaching altitudes of 7.62° in Merauke to 10.03° in Sabang, well above the 3° requirement. Elongation will range from 10.7° to 12.21° (exceeding the 6.4° threshold), and the moon’s age will be 20 to 23 hours.

Despite the clarity provided by scientific calculations (hisab), the Indonesian government will still hold the isbat session on February 17, 2026. This session serves as a formal confirmation, reconciling mathematical calculations with observational data. Professor Djamaluddin emphasized that the purpose of the scientific data is not to create conflict, but to provide an objective understanding of the reasons for the potential differences. “Astronomically, there is no erroneous data; the differences arise solely from the different criteria believed,” he stated.

Consumer insights from YouGov, covering Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and the UAE, indicate a heightened focus on religious observance during Ramadan 2026, but do not address the potential divergence in start dates. The government has also set school learning policy for Ramadan 2026, but details of that policy were not available.

Indonesia: Social Aid for Low-Income Families Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026

by Emma Walker – News Editor February 10, 2026
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) will prioritize the distribution of social assistance (bansos) to households in the lowest four deciles of the country’s socioeconomic scale (DTSEN) in anticipation of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026, Minister Saifullah Yusuf, commonly known as Gus Ipul, announced Tuesday.

The aid package, totaling Rp 17.5 trillion (approximately $1.1 billion USD), is intended to bolster the purchasing power of vulnerable populations during the upcoming religious holidays, according to a press conference held at Gambir Station. “Following a meeting with the Coordinating Minister, our focus will be on assistance for deciles 1 and 2. If budget allocations permit, we will extend this to deciles 3 and 4,” Gus Ipul stated.

The assistance will be delivered through two primary channels: regular social assistance programs, including the Family Hope Program (PKH) and Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT), and adaptive social assistance, encompassing disaster relief and the Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) program. The Rp 17.5 trillion allocation will benefit an estimated 18 million recipient families (KPM), officials said.

Beyond direct financial aid, the adaptive social assistance component will address disaster-related needs, including home repairs, empowerment initiatives, and livelihood support. ATENSI will provide assistance to families requiring social attention, according to the Ministry.

Gus Ipul emphasized that the distribution of aid will be based on data from the National Socioeconomic Survey (Data Tunggal Sosial Ekonomi Nasional), compiled by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and updated by Kemensos. He underscored the importance of data accuracy and announced the Ministry is actively seeking to improve its data collection processes through multiple channels, including local administrative levels (RT/RW), the Cek Bansos application, and a 24/7 command center accessible by phone at 021-171. A WhatsApp hotline is also under development.

The announcement was made during a broader press conference outlining the government’s economic stimulus package for the first quarter of 2026, which also includes transportation discounts and support for remote work arrangements. Attendees included Cabinet Secretary Letkol Teddy Indra Wijaya, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartanto, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Manpower Yassierli, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, and Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Rini Widyantini.

As of Tuesday, the government has disbursed over Rp 17 trillion in social assistance, with the remaining funds scheduled for distribution in April, May, and June, Gus Ipul confirmed.
