Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Operates on Emergency Generators for Fifth Consecutive Day
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – The Zaporizhzhia nuclear powerโ plant in Ukraine is continuing to rely โon emergency generators forโ itsโ core โฃcooling systems forโข a fifth day,โข raising ongoing concerns about the facility’s safety amid โcontinued fighting โin the region. International Atomic โEnergy Agency (IAEA) staff are โฃrotating โฃthrough the plant to monitor safety and provide technical expertise, as attacks โคhave occurred โฃnearby due to the proximity ofโ the frontโ line.
Ukrainianโข President volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Saturday โคa considerableโฃ weapons agreement with the United States,โ valued at $90 billion, โคwith technical โคdiscussions slated to begin later this month. The package encompasses โคboth a major arms deal and aโ separate agreementโค for the U.S. to directly purchase Ukrainian-made drones.
“We discussed and agreed on theโข main points with โthe โฃPresident (Trump). Nowโ we are moving on to practical implementation,” Zelenskyy stated, adding thatโ Ukraine has provided detailed military needs โฃtoโฃ the U.S.,including requestsโ for long-range weapons systems.
Zelenskyy also leveled criticism at Hungary regarding drone activity over Ukrainian territory, stating Ukrainian intelligence โคtracked at least one drone. “I believe they are doing veryโข risky things โ- very dangerous things, first and foremost for themselves,” he said, noting intelligenceโฃ services have documented the drone’s โคmovement through โขphotographic andโค electronic tracking, though details of whatโฃ “Hungarian โฃintelligence is studying on the territory โof Ukraine” โwere not disclosed.
Hungarian Foreign minister Peter Szijjarto responded Friday on Facebook, claiming Zelenskyy “lost โhis mind” and was “seeing things.” Hungary,โ under Prime Minister Viktor Orbรกn, has maintained โฃclose ties with Russia and has been critical of military aid to Ukraine.
Inโค addition, Zelenskyy revealed that an Israeli Patriot air defense systemโข has been operational in Ukraine for theโ past โmonth, with two more systems anticipated โto arrive โฃthis โfall.”The Israeliโค (Patriot) system is operating inโข Ukraine. Already a month, it’s been working for one month,” he said, declining to elaborate further.โค Israel’sโข Defense Ministry hasโค not commented.
