UTEC Researcher Receivesโ Funding โfor Eco-Friendly Lithium Recovery Project
Tulancingo, Hidalgo – A research professor at the Technological University of Tulancingo (UTEC) has secured funding to โdevelop a sustainable method for lithium recovery from โlepidolite, a lithium-bearing mineral found in Mexico. Mizraim Uriel Flores Guerrero was awardedโ resources from the Fundo Hidalgo program: Scienceโ and Technology, administered โby the Science, Technology and Innovationโค Council of Hidalgo (Citnova).
Theโข project, titled “Lithium recovery contained in โฃlepidolite, using environmental โฃfriendly techniques,” aimsโ to create efficient and environmentally responsible alternatives for โlithium leaching.Lithium is a criticalโค component inโ Ion-litio batteries, essential for the global transition to โclean energy.
Flores Guerrero’s research will focus on determining the acidโ decomposition โคkinetics of lepidolite to โconvert it into lithium carbonate, utilizing organic acids and hydrogen peroxide โas reactionโฃ agents.โฃ Theโฃ project will identify optimal concentrationโฃ and temperature conditions โto maximize lithium recovery.
Researchers will alsoโ establish a sustainable and โeconomically viable purification method, supported by advanced characterization techniques. UTEC aims to contribute an โฃinnovative andโ responsible model for obtaining strategic materials for the energy industry.
“This research is strategic, since lithium is a key resource โfor the production of Ion-Litio batteries,”โ aโ statement from UTEC confirmed.โ
The fundingโข reaffirms UTEC’s commitment as an applied research โฃinstitution addressing the needs ofโข the productive sector and global climate challenges.
