Qatar Airways Faces $5 Million Lawsuit After Flight Attendant Gave Allergic Child Kitโ Kat
DOHA, Qatar โ- A motherโข isโข suing Qatar Airways for $5 million after her 3-year-old daughter suffered a near-fatal allergicโค reaction to a Kit Kat barโค given to her mid-flightโ by aโ flight attendant, according to a complaintโค filed October 31 and reported by the New York Post. the incident occurred on April 9 during aโ flight from the United States to India with a โฃlayover in Doha.
The child has โsevere allergies to nuts and lactose. โขThe mother had repeatedly alerted โflight attendants to her โdaughter’s โallergies โขprior to briefly using the restroom.โ While the mother was away, a flight attendant offered the child โฃa Kit Kat.
Uponโ her return, theโ mother discoveredโ the flight attendantโค had givenโ her daughter the chocolateโ bar. She instantly confronted the attendant, who, according to the complaint, โ”mocked and minimized her concerns.” The child quickly went โinto anaphylactic shock, requiring her mother to administer an epinephrine auto-injector. A second anaphylactic reaction occurred shortlyโ beforeโข landing in India.
The girl was hospitalized in intensive care โfor two โdays, โคinitially with aโ life-threatening prognosis, before โher condition โฃstabilized. The lawsuit alleges the โflight crew was โค”blasรฉ” and “very indifferent,” failing to take appropriate action such as contacting medical assistance or seeking a doctorโ onboard.
“A mother should be able to trust โa flight attendant toโข watch her child for a few minutes,”โข the mother’s lawyer told the New York Post. The lawsuit seeksโ damagesโข for the “grate โฃpain, โขagony andโข mental anguish” suffered by theโค child.
