Martin County High Schoolโฃ Pool Reopens After Year-Longโฃ Repairs
Stuart, FL โ – The Martin County High School swimming pool is now open following a year of extensive repairs, though access is provingโฃ contentious for some long-time โคusers. The pool officially reopened to โขthe public on Sept. 3, accordingโฃ to School District Communicationsโฃ director, sid lowe.
The year-long closure andโ subsequent requirementโฃ of usage agreements have sparked debate among swimmersโ who have โhistorically used the pool for recreation and exercise. While the school district maintains agreements โคwere always necessary, some users claim the new stipulations are unfairly limiting access. The poolS future was once in โquestion, with theโค district considering closure in 2018 due โคtoโฃ high operating costs, but a strong community responseโข saved it.
Lowe stated that as of Sept. 3, no one had yet filed to use the pool under the new agreement system. The repairs addressed โongoing maintenance issues, but user Dick Landrum expressedโ frustration โคwith โฃthe timeline, stating,”It took them a โyear โขto do three โขweeks of maintenance.”
Landrum, a pool user as 1986, noted that historically, individuals haven’t โneeded formal agreements โฃto utilize the pool, except for those hosting parties or events. He arguesโ the โcurrent system is “shutting out” regular users. Lowe, though, โmaintains the agreements have always beenโ a requirement.
The โSchool Boardโ ultimately voted to keep the poolโ open in responseโค to opposition from the swimmingโข community, recognizing its value as a โrecreational resource.
