The artist Ruby’s song, “3 Hours Straight”, sparked widespread controversy in the artistic community that has not ended since its release, due to the boldness of her words. It also caused a state of controversy that swept social media sites during the past few hours.
Sources familiar with the censorship of artistic works, affiliated with the Supreme Council of Culture at the Ministry of Culture, revealed in exclusive statements to Masrawy that the censorship refused to grant the song a permission to perform.
Regarding the scenes behind the rejection of Ruby’s new song, the sources said that the poet Aziz Al-Shafi’i applied for a permit for the song last August, but the censorship refused because of the song’s lyrics, so Aziz submitted a new request several days before the song was released, and his request was also rejected, so the song was released. The sources pointed out that what happened is considered a full-fledged crime according to the Censorship of Artistic Works Law, which regulates the creative process in Egypt, and stipulates the necessity of obtaining a permit from the censorship and adhering to the censorship notes and not violating them.
The sources indicated that the censorship is in the process of taking legal measures by issuing a report against the makers of the song, and the Public Prosecution has the freedom to summon whomever it wishes and charge whomever it deems appropriate.
The song “3 Continuous Hours” is written and composed by Aziz Al-Shafi’i, arranged by Touma, and its lyrics include: “There is no time for us to hide from people, from the blackness that has spread… from the isolation that has plagued us, and when we are stuck in our affairs… there is no time for us to rest from the trouble.. We extinguish the fire of longing when the evening comes. I miss your light, O moon.”
For his part, Mustafa Kamel, head of the Musicians Syndicate, said that the union has no income or control over the song, and the whole matter is due to artistic works.
