Solo, Indonesia – July 23, 2024 – Rising Indian badminton talent Tanvi sharma has stormed into the third round of the women’s singles at the Asia Junior Badminton Championships, spearheading a strong performance by the Indian contingent. The event, held in Solo, Indonesia, saw several Indian players advance through their respective categories on Wednesday.

Sharma Dominates early Rounds

The second-seeded Tanvi Sharma, fresh off her runner-up finish at the 2025 US Open Super 300 in Iowa earlier this month, demonstrated impressive form. After receiving a bye in the opening round, Sharma decisively defeated Vaidehi Kalidasan of the UAE with a commanding 21-6, 21-6 victory in the second round. The 16-year-old prodigy is now set to face China’s Shi Si Chen in her upcoming match.

Other Indian Players Make Their Mark

The success extended to other Indian players as Vennala Kalagotla and Tanvi Reddy Andluri also secured their spots in the third round with convincing wins. Kalagotla first swept aside Alissa Kuleshova of Kazakhstan 21-6, 21-10, and then followed up with a 21-18, 21-16 triumph over Indonesia’s Auberta Zerlina. Her next opponent will be the tenth seed Eng Ler Qi from Malaysia.

Andluri, who also benefited from a first-round bye, made short work of Macau’s Ung Cheok Ian, winning 21-9, 21-10.She is scheduled to compete against Thailand’s third seed Yataweemin Ketklieng in the next stage.

Men’s Singles and Doubles Progress

In the men’s singles, Ansh Negi and Pranauv Ram Nagalingam have also advanced to the third round. Negi, after a bye, defeated Singapore’s Ding Han Jin 21-16, 21-15. Similarly,Pranauv,who also received a bye,overcame Myanmar’s Lal Zuidika in straight games with a score of 21-15,21-7.

Negi is slated to face Minh Son Le of Vietnam, while Pranauv will compete against Singapore’s Tee Kai Ze.

The mixed doubles saw the Indian pair of vishnu Kedhar Kode and Keerthy Manchala secure a hard-fought victory, defeating Hong Kong’s Cheng Ying Kit and Hung Ho Yan 22-20, 16-21, 21-19 to reach the third round.

In men’s doubles, the top-seeded duo of Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu, along with the pair of Bhavya Chhabra and C Lalramsanga, received byes in both the first and second rounds, automatically progressing.
