Fake Police Officer Detained atโ Nyugati Square Metro Station
A man posing as โคa police officer was apprehended at theโฃ Nyugati Square Metro Station on September 13th, according toโข a postโ from the State Secretariat for Law Enforcement. The incident was initially brought toโ the attention of authoritiesโข by a โขsharp-eyed 16-year-old high school student from Fรผzesgyarmat, who is preparing to attend the Nationalโข University of โPublic Service.
The 42-year-old man, employed as a security guard, was wearing aโ genuine police โuniform,โ but with several inconsistencies. While โขthe uniform โคitself was authentic, it featured โaftermarket BRFKโ (Budapest โฃPoliceโฃ headquarters) markings and Velcro-attached “Police” patches instead of proper identification. The most telling flaw was a โคbadge displaying the word “Police” were an identification number should have been.
Theโค studentโข noticed theโ discrepancies and alerted real police officers. When questioned about his attire, the man claimed he had “shot with โmy girlfriend”โ and stated he purchased the uniform for 30,000 forints fromโฃ a retired police officer. He asserted โhe had not worn the uniform in publicโฃ before โขand wouldn’t in the future,โฃ asโ it was subsequently confiscated.
According to the State Secretariat’s post, โคthe man was also โคreportedly called to attention โขin the metro underpass with a โfalse report of someone wielding a knife, toโฃ which he โresponded, “The colleagues are coming.”
The man was fined 104,000 forints by the Budapest Police โฃHeadquartersโค VI. District Police Department for misuseโฃ of unauthorized โฃaddress.
