Mexico City. The Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) confirmed the results of the presidential election of June 2. Therefore, the number of votes counted by the National Electoral Institute (INE) in favor of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, of the coalition Let’s Keep Making History, made up of Morena, the Labor Party and the Green Party, is validated.

By a majority vote of four to two (judges Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón and Janine Otálora Malassis), the plenary session of the TEPJF – made up of six judges for this process – declared the inadmissibility of all the lawsuits filed by the opposition, almost all of them from the Party of the Democratic Revolution, for not having supported their arguments, that is, for not offering the necessary evidence.

“For me, the appropriate thing is to confirm in its terms all of the calculations that have been reported, given the ineffectiveness of the arguments put forward in the non-conformity trials,” said presiding judge Mónica Soto.

In their respective reports, Judges Rodríguez and Otálora proposed the cancellation of 66 polling stations (out of 170,000 set up on election day); they proposed to their colleagues to resolve “with common sense”, even with the argument that this modification would not impact the victory of the winning candidate.

These are “isolated events that do not substantially affect the numerical framework of the election,” said Rodríguez before explaining that it was not essential for the PRD to give them the names of the people who received the votes without being authorized to do so, in the polling stations indicated in both reports.

His colleagues Soto, Felipe de la Mata, Felipe Fuentes and Claudia Valle issued, with only a few nuances, a uniform position regarding the need for the accuser to prove his statements.

“The mere mention of the aforementioned data is not an element that should be equated with the requirement that this Court has established in the precedents, consisting of the fact that political parties must mention the full name of the officials who, in the opinion of the actors, should not have occupied any position on the board of directors of the polling station,” said Soto.

After a brief debate on the criteria for nullifying a vote at a polling station, the president declared the decision:

“Unique. The results contained in the district voting records of the election for the Presidency of the United Mexican States are confirmed.”

After the above, it remains for the magistrates of the Superior Court to vote on the project that declares the three general trials against the election inadmissible, two of which called for the annulment of the contest.

Next Wednesday, the session will be held to give the final counts and, if applicable, declare the validity of the presidential election and order the delivery of the certificate of majority in favor of Sheinbaum, which will accredit her as president-elect of the United Mexican States for the 2024-2030 six-year term.
