BSP Rejects Emergency Budget Session

Bulgarian Political Gridlock: Budget Stalemate and Uncertain Future

BulgariaS political landscape is ⁢currently embroiled in a tense standoff, with the nation’s budget⁣ for next year hanging in the balance ⁣and the⁣ formation of a stable ⁤government far from certain.⁤ The deadlock‌ centers around disagreements ‍over key policy issues and deep-seated distrust among leading political ⁢figures.

Adding to the complexity, a recent ⁣call by Maya Manolova to expedite ⁢budget consideration has highlighted the divisions within the government. ‌Venko Sabrutev, a member of parliament from the “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria”‌ coalition, shed⁤ light⁣ on the situation, stating, “Maya Manolova⁢ called on the people’s representative to⁤ collect and consider ‌the budget. I know ⁣she is not an MP,‍ but she is ‌still ⁣part of the government. He ‌should have mentioned that, in fact, ⁢on Friday PP-DB made such an initiative, I personally collected⁣ signatures so that we could hold⁤ an remarkable meeting of ‌the Budget Committee on the same day we created it.‌ It⁣ was ⁢precisely the deputies of ⁢the ‘BSP-United Left’ who refused to sign off.”

The ongoing negotiations for a new government are also fraught⁣ with challenges. Sabrutev ⁣expressed deep skepticism regarding the ‍involvement of ⁣certain key players. He explained, “We don’t trust Boyko Borisov. We ‌see that he is capable of⁣ changing ⁢his mind several times.⁤ The only way to declare yourself ‍as⁣ a person‍ who will actively fight corruption in Bulgaria is through the votes in‌ the parliament. The ⁤anti-corruption laws introduced by us and ⁣the changes‍ in the Law on the Judiciary must be passed ‍so that ⁤Borislav Sarafov cannot be elected for the next 7⁢ years ⁢and ⁤there will ⁢be a⁣ fair⁣ competition, after which the Prosecutor’s Office will function.”

Sabrutev emphasized the crucial role of autonomous ‌institutions in Bulgaria’s progress. He commented, “If there is a desire for Bulgaria to move forward, the prosecutor’s office and ⁢the Anti-Corruption Commission must work. ‘The bills have been drafted and submitted to the National ‍Assembly, rather of being considered in the plenary hall, they are gathering dust somewhere ⁣in the Registry Office. Borisov has the largest‍ parliamentary group, once again he won the elections, let’s show the public if bulgaria wants to ⁤get ⁢off the bottom.'” This statement ⁣underscores‌ the concerns about legislative gridlock and the perceived lack of progress on crucial anti-corruption measures.

The formation of a new government also hinges on coalition-building.Sabrutev ⁢outlined the coalition’s approach, stating, “Bulgaria needs⁤ a regular⁢ government. We‌ said ‍that we will⁢ negotiate with all the parties that sign‌ the⁤ ‘sanitary cordon’ that will remove ‌Delyan⁢ Peevski from power. ‍Parties like ‘Vazrazhdane’ are‌ absurd, we are two different worlds.” This highlights ‌the significant ideological ‍divides that are hindering the formation‌ of a broad-based coalition.

Ultimately, the success or failure of forming a new government ‍rests‌ heavily on the actions of ⁢the largest political ⁣party. Sabrutev ‍concluded,”Whether ⁣we will have a regular cabinet depends on the first political force.” This‍ underscores ⁣the immense power and responsibility held ⁣by the leading party⁢ in navigating Bulgaria out ‌of its current political ⁢impasse.

Prosecutor’s Office Interference in Politics: Outrageous & Unacceptable

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 15, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Bulgaria’s Political Gridlock: A Nation at a ⁢Crossroads

Bulgaria, a nation nestled in Southeastern Europe, ⁢is ⁣grappling with ⁤a persistent political ‍crisis. Teh country is on the brink of its seventh snap election in just four years, a stark testament to the inability of its fractured political ‌parties to form a stable coalition‍ government. This⁣ ongoing instability raises concerns not only for Bulgarians ‍but also for ‌the broader European Union.

The two largest parliamentary groups, GERB-UDF, led by former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, and ‌the ‍reformist We Continue the⁣ Change – Democratic Bulgaria coalition,⁤ remain at⁤ an impasse. Despite recent attempts at negotiation, ‌a path to forming a government remains elusive. ⁢ A deputy from GERB commented, “This is‍ not⁤ the first time we are talking‍ with potential partners for⁢ a future coalition, and in the last parliament we talked with these same formations. New elections will not lead to a different distribution in ⁤the National Assembly, on the contrary, the parliament is⁢ becoming even more ⁤fragmented.”

The stakes are high. ⁤The prolonged political ‍uncertainty threatens Bulgaria’s⁣ economic stability and its ability to effectively⁢ address pressing national issues.‌ Raya‍ Nazaryan⁢ of GERB-SDS ⁢emphasized the urgency, ‍stating,‍ “Our priority ⁣is the stability ⁤of Bulgaria and the creation of a ⁤regular government. There is good news: after the stormy processes for electing the Speaker ⁢of the National ⁤Assembly, the political parties sat down⁢ to talk. And accordingly, we are starting talks about the‌ formation ⁣of a⁢ regular government.”

President Rumen Radev, ⁢recognizing ‍the critical situation,⁢ has ⁤actively ‍sought to ⁤facilitate negotiations. Nazaryan noted, “We realise that after the seventh ⁣early parliamentary elections in‍ a row, all efforts must⁣ be made in this⁢ direction. Radev also stated that he is ready ‌to give time for these negotiations.” ⁣ Though, deep-seated⁣ divisions and conflicting priorities continue to hinder progress.Nazaryan further explained, “Each political formation has its⁣ own narrow party priorities, but we must look for national issues that ⁣can be approached responsibly. It ‍starts‍ with the main topics with which we⁤ have no contradictions – public finances, financial stability, Bulgaria’s security ‌- internal and external, investments and the creation of an investment⁣ habitat, and last but not least – ⁣the filling and renewal⁢ of⁣ regulators with an expired mandate. This process of disintegration of‌ statehood must stop.”

The failure to form a government after multiple⁢ attempts underscores the depth of the‌ political divide. Nazaryan warned, “With the second and third ‌terms, there will be no negotiations, ⁣and if a⁣ government is not formed now, the Bulgarian citizens will remain lied ⁢to.” The ongoing⁢ stalemate highlights the need‍ for compromise and a focus on national interests above⁣ partisan politics. The ‍situation mirrors challenges faced by other ⁢nations grappling with political polarization and the struggle to build ‌effective ⁤governing coalitions.

Adding to the complexity, disagreements persist on key policy issues and the handling of past financial ‌decisions. ⁤Nazaryan criticized the‌ previous financial policies,⁢ stating, “The PP has isolated itself from the negotiations,⁤ and will not‍ be involved in deciding whether there ‌will be a regular⁣ government. Bad financial policy in the last three years shows that Asen Vassilev rather ⁢of a⁢ guardian‌ of the ⁣State Budget, ‍he has become its destroyer, remember that in all three of Borisov’s cabinets, financial discipline was a priority, and the budget was in surplus, not deficit. We have nothing personal towards‌ anyone, we⁢ are all ‘for’ those who want to help‍ solve the problems.”

The situation in Bulgaria serves as a cautionary tale for ⁢democracies worldwide, highlighting‌ the importance of effective governance and the potential consequences⁢ of prolonged ⁢political instability. The international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that will bring stability and ⁤prosperity to bulgaria.

Bulgarian political‌ Tensions Escalate Amidst Immunity Debate and Election Calls

Bulgaria’s political landscape⁢ is facing increasing turmoil as⁣ the⁢ GERB party, a meaningful political force, finds itself at odds with the prosecution service over several high-profile cases. The conflict centers around issues of parliamentary immunity and⁣ the timing of potential new⁤ elections, creating ⁣a volatile situation.

The controversy intensified with GERB’s stance on a declaration concerning Delyan Peevski, a prominent figure⁢ in Bulgarian politics. ⁣ The party’s position, according to GERB deputy Narazyan, ⁢is rooted in a firm ‍belief in the separation of powers. “it is outrageous,”‍ Narazyan stated, “for the actions of the prosecution in ‍these trials. We have always maintained that the principle of separation of powers should⁤ not be deviated from. If you give way, everything becomes very‌ fragile, as it is indeed ⁢now. There is⁢ no right for the judiciary to‍ interfere in political processes, and vice versa – for politics to interfere in the judicial system. What we⁢ are observing is unacceptable.”

Further fueling ‌the tensions is the debate⁤ surrounding the parliamentary immunity of Borislavova. GERB’s ‍opposition to removing her immunity underscores the party’s concerns about ⁤what they perceive as overreach by the ‍prosecution. Narazyan added that GERB “has no interest in the overactivity of the prosecutor’s office ‌in bringing charges against ⁤political figures in ⁤recent weeks.”

The situation ‍is further elaborate by calls for new‌ elections. ⁤ Narazyan commented⁢ on Peevski’s suggestion that new ⁣elections are preferable,‌ stating, “Formations that have declared that new⁤ elections⁣ should ‌be held cannot take away the chance of the responsible parties, who believe that ⁢talks on forming a government should be held at any cost.”

The ongoing conflict highlights the deep divisions within Bulgarian politics and raises questions about the stability of the government and the future of ⁣the country’s political trajectory. The clash between the executive and judicial branches mirrors similar debates in other democracies, underscoring the importance of maintaining ⁤a clear ⁤separation‍ of powers to ensure a functioning and transparent political system.

Controversy Surrounding Judge Georgieva’s Statement Leads to Request for Recusal

They requested the recusal of Judge Georgieva because of her statement in the commission for the Notary

Former director of customs Petya Bankova and businessman Stefan Dimitrov will appear before the Court of Appeal on April 16. Today’s meeting was postponed due to an ill lawyer. Petya Bankova’s husband Delyan Tanev gave the document to judge Galya Georgieva, who had to decide whether to keep the two in custody.

“In view of the statement of the chairman of the judicial panel that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the prosecutor’s office are above everything, and this is not true, because the law is above everything, I request the recusal of the chairman of the judicial panel. You went there to clear your name. No I am aware of how 2 days ago the media spread information that you will be the reporter of the case,” said lawyer Naydenov. On Tuesday, Judge Georgieva was heard in the parliamentary committee for the Notary at her request.

“I have nothing personal against Judge Georgieva. But this politicization of the case is not good for solving it on its merits,” said Ivo Naydenov after the failure of the hearing.

Judge Galya Georgieva refused to recuse herself, but postponed the hearing to April 16, when the chairperson of the panel will be someone else. She fined lawyer Natina BGN 500.

Russian Spy Scandal Unfolds: Secret Laptops Smuggled from Austria to Moscow in 2022

Russian Spy Scandal Unfolds: Secret Laptops Smuggled from Austria to Moscow in 2022

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 10, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

In addition to the mobile phones belonging to high-ranking officials, the laptop and USB sticks owned by the Bulgarian journalist Hristo Grozev, at least one more secret laptop was smuggled from Vienna to Moscow in 2022. He was later found in the apartment of former Austrian constitutional protection officer Egisto Ott, accused of spying for Russia.

This became clear during last night’s meeting of the Austrian National Security Council, dedicated to the espionage affair surrounding Egisto Ott and the former manager of “Wirecard” Jan Marsalek.

During searches of Ott’s addresses in Carinthia and Vienna, several pieces of evidence were found confirming his espionage. These are two SINA laptops ie. specially secured devices used by the Secret Service that may contain extremely sensitive data.

At the end of March, a SINA laptop was found at Ott’s residence in Carinthia, and another was found hidden in the kitchen of his apartment in Vienna, still in its original packaging.

It is not clear what Ott intended to do with them. An investigation is currently underway into how he got hold of the laptops. He has admitted that he knew of a total of five SINAs, one of which was overseas, but not in Russia, where Ott is suspected of spying. Another was to his employee and a third to a journalist in Austria.

Ott is suspected of having sold a SINA laptop to Russian intelligence. In November 2022, the device was handed over to men with fake passports in Vienna and taken via Istanbul to the headquarters of the Federal Security Service (FSB) in Moscow. It probably contained confidential information.

The deal is believed to have been arranged by Marsalek, who is said to now work for Russia’s FSB. 20,000 euros were given for the laptop. This is clear from chats that Marsalek has had with the alleged leader of a Bulgarian spy network, Orlin Rusev, since 2022. It is understood from them that in addition to the mobile phones belonging to high-ranking officials and the laptop and USB sticks owned by the journalist Hristo Grozev, at least one more secret laptop was smuggled from Vienna to Moscow in 2022. It was allegedly found in the apartment of one of Ott’s family members and was a SINA laptop.

The chats even talk about taking “one of the laptops” in Vienna. Ott is therefore believed to have had several SINA devices, according to claims by Standard and ORF. According to them, Marsalek and Rusev feared that the laptop in question might be equipped with a tracking device. “Iran will be a happy buyer,” Marsalek finally wrote in the chat, reports the Report.

Intelligence expert Thomas Rigler believes the SINA laptop could not have been sent to Iran. The reason is that the country supplies Russia with drones and helps it in the war with Ukraine, so it has an ally.

Ott used his ex-son-in-law’s apartment in Vienna to hand over official mobile phones owned by high-ranking Interior Ministry officials and a SINA laptop containing classified, highly sensitive intelligence data to Russian intelligence officials without his ex-son-in-law to know about it.

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism has been repeatedly warned about Russian infiltrations, reports Falter. As early as 2016, an official in charge of espionage warned his superiors that the Russian intelligence service had stepped up its activities in Austria and the EU on a huge scale, and Austria’s resources were hardly sufficient to deal with the large number of cases.

Two years later, officials at the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Fight against Terrorism have again repeatedly warned that there are increased recruitment attempts by Russian intelligence in Austria and complained that only three officers have to deal with the protection against Russian intelligence.

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner emphasized last night on the late TV news bulletin that the Directorate for State Security and Intelligence, the successor organization to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Fight against Terrorism, had undergone a personnel offensive and now had sufficient personnel, who are responsible for Russian espionage.

Blagovest Georgiev: DUI, Hit and Run, and Refusal – Can a Municipal Councilor in Sofia Get Away with It?

Blagovest Georgiev: DUI, Hit and Run, and Refusal – Can a Municipal Councilor in Sofia Get Away with It?

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 8, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Can a recidivist with a revoked license and refusal to give an alcohol test become a municipal councilor, while being a member of the transport and road safety commission in Sofia? This is the case with Blagovest Georgiev, who fled the scene of the accident on Friday evening and refused to give a sample for alcohol and drugs. The accident happened on “Dragan Tsankov” Blvd. and “Kiril Vidinski” St. in a minor accident between two cars.

Georgiev tried to leave the scene of the accident, but was stopped a few blocks from the accident. He refused to give a breathalyzer test and was arrested.

Georgiev was elected as a municipal councilor from the quota of “We continue the change” and is part of the group of PP-DB and “Save Sofia”. On Saturday, because of his action, everyone demanded his resignation. A check of “24 hours” on Sunday night found that

Georgiev did not submit his resignation over the weekend,

and it is necessary because he cannot, according to the rules, be disciplinary suspended. And the distinction can only be made by an independent municipal councilor, but with a salary of over BGN 5,700.

To be a municipal councilor, however, you have to meet a few simple rules, and among them there is no criminal record check. “The right to elect municipal councilors and mayors belongs to Bulgarian citizens who have reached the age of 18 on election day inclusive, have not been placed under interdiction, are not serving a sentence of imprisonment and have lived at least for the last 10 months in the relevant settlement”. written in the Local Elections Act.

And Georgiev himself managed to gather only 367 preferences in the local elections in October. During the election campaign, he promised that one of his main tasks would be road safety.

Incidents on the streets of Sofia are becoming more frequent and more monstrous. Accidents are becoming more frequent, the number of victims is increasing, life for entire families is turning into a tragedy. We put the person at the center of our program for Sofia. We want the people of Sofia to feel safe and for the city to have order and rules to be respected by everyone, he said during the election campaign in October.

And while he promised these things, it turns out that

in 2017 he was caught after consuming alcohol 0.8

and had his driving license revoked for 8 months. Then he was fined BGN 700. He was detained in the district office. Witnesses were found who stated that it was Georgiev who drove the car. In 2007, there was a refusal to take an alcohol test.

Rules and laws should apply equally to everyone. The behavior of Blagovest Georgiev, a municipal councilor from the PP-DB-SS group, is unacceptable and incompatible with our values and principles and in complete contradiction with our commitment to safety and security in our city, said Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev.

A sharp reaction followed from the whole group of advisors of the PP-DB-SS, they also demanded the resignation of their colleague. The leader of “Save Sofia” Boris Bonev also issued a statement in which he was outraged by Georgiev’s behavior. I’m sorry and I’m ashamed. No one has the right to endanger the life and health of others because of their reckless behavior, Bonev said.

Municipal councilors from his party assessed his behavior as unacceptable, dangerous for others and violating not only laws and rules, but also public morality.

He must bear his responsibility before the law, but also as a municipal councilor, by submitting his resignation, which I expect and will accept, because the people who elected him cannot trust him anymore, said the head of the Metropolitan Municipal Council (SOS) ) Tsvetomir Petrov.

So far, requests for the resignation of councilor Georgiev remain unanswered.

Blagovest Georgiev was born in 1981 in Sofia and grew up in “Manastirski Livadi”. He graduated in law, then worked as an entrepreneur and consultant, and for the last three years he has been engaged in construction.

In addition to being a municipal councilor, Georgiev is also the father of two children.

For the post

it takes 10 months

address registration,

not to be under prohibition.

The mayor only collected

367 preferences, for now

he doesn’t plan to leave

neither the council nor

transport

committee

The Power of an Expensive Watch: How Luxury Timepieces Define Success and Status Among Bulgarian Managers

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 5, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

An expensive watch is always on the wrist of managers of any industry and caliber

How can we know that a person is an important stick? Well, the easiest way is to see if an expensive watch is shining on his hand. For years, wearing a mega-expensive accessory has been indicative of a man’s power.

The former sports minister Radostin Vassilev was noticed by “Bulgaria Dnes” proudly wearing a watch worth more than 35 thousand BGN in the parliament.

And he is by no means alone. Most managers in our country from all branches always have ultra-modern, rare and very luxurious accessories on hand.

While he was still the president of the BFS, Borislav Mihailov was revealed with his next watch for about BGN 20,000. It has been known for years that the legendary guard collects bar watches from a renowned Swiss brand and already has dozens of models collected.

The so-called richest Bulgarian – Vasil Bozhkov, can’t help but take the top spot in this impromptu ranking. The large businessman appeared at the opening of his new political movement with an accessory for more than 200 grand, the work of one of the giants in this business, Patek Philippe.

Although he is a clergyman and, as a rule, he should be a humble and modest person, not fixated on material things, Plovdiv Metropolitan Nikolay also loves expensive things and luxury. And he does not shy away from demonstrating it, although it does not suit his spiritual position. Years ago, the minister of God stirred up spirits after appearing with a gold Rolex adorning his arm.

Also years ago, the current defendant, businessman Vetko Arabadzhiev, was caught by photographers in 2016 with a watch for an impressive 279,690 euros. The strap for the original rose gold model is made of brown leather.

And if you think that only those who appear every day on TV are rich and spend money on watches, you are wrong. Scandalous bachelorette Theodora from last year’s season has also been shown to be a fan of the shiny and gaudy watches. After leaving the show, of course, with a scandal, she showed up with a piece of jewelry on her arm for 15 grand – an amount that no one understood where the chick got after posing as a babysitter.
