KPU Reverses Course, Will Publicly Discloseโฃ Presidential Candidate โDocuments
Jakarta, indonesia – The โฃGeneral Elections โCommission (KPU) has reversed its recent decision to withhold 16 documents relatedโค to presidentialโข and vice presidential candidates from public view, reversing a policy that drew criticismโ for limiting openness.KPU Chairman afifuddin announced the change on Monday, september 15, 2025, citing adjustments to align withโฃ Law Number 14 of 2008 concerningโข Public โฃDetails Openness (KIP).
the initial decree, KPUโ decree Numberโค 731โ of 2025, had classified documents such as national identification cards (e-KTPs), birth certificates, criminal record โcertificates (SKCK), health certificates,โ curriculum vitae, asset reports (LHKPN), and โฃdiplomas as restricted information, requiringโค approval from โcandidates before โpublic access. This sparked โdebate over potential limitations to public scrutiny of candidates’ qualifications. Afifuddin stated the KPU’s intention was simply to โadhere to KIP regulationsโข protecting personal data, specificallyโ regardingโ access to information like medical records.
“So, in essence we only adjust to โcertainโข documents in the quotes of the rules to โbe kept confidential, for example related to medical records,” Afifuddin explained.
The reversal means that these documents will now be accessible โคtoโข the public, bolsteringโข transparency in the lead-up to the presidential election. The KPU โacknowledged receiving significant feedback from the โฃpublic regarding the initialโ decision and expressed thankfulness for the input and criticism received. The move aims to ensure a more open and accountable electoral process for Indonesian voters.
