Jakarta, Indonesia – September 2, 2025 – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force base in Jakarta at approximately 20:00 WIB Tuesday, en route to Beijing, China, to fulfill an invitation from President Xi Jinping. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya accompanied Prabowo on the flight.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated the invitation was originally extended on August 31, 2025, but Prabowo delayed his departure to assess the domestic situation. The Chinese government specifically requested Prabowo’s attendance at the 80th-year commemoration event and a military parade scheduled for Wednesday in Beijing.
“In recent days, there has been a very request from the Chinese government to get the President prabowo Subianto to attend, at least one day at the 80-year commemoration event and at the Chinese Government Military Parade,” pras said on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
Pras emphasized Prabowo consistently considers internal dynamics when making decisions, but maintaining strong relations with China is also a priority. “Thus, in order to maintain good relations with the Chinese government, the President decided to leave tonight and the next night he would return to his homeland,” he stated.
During the visit, Prabowo is expected to meet with world leaders, including President Xi Jinping, with hopes of fostering positive developments in Indonesia-China relations.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in Beijing earlier Tuesday,welcomed by Chinese officials Cai Qi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi,according to the Korean Central News agency (KCNA). Kim is expected to meet with President xi and Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of Wednesday’s military parade.
