PORTLAND,Ore. – A federal judge has blocked former President Donald Trump‘s attempt too deploy National Guard troops from states other than Oregon to Portland, Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield announced lateโข Monday. The โruling prevents trump from sending National Guard forces-from any state or Washington,D.C.-to Oregon.
The legal challenge stemmed from Trump’s plan to utilize the โTexas National Guard in oregon, following a previous lawsuit by the โstate to halt efforts to send โtroops from california. Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirmed Trump’s plan to deploy membersโฃ of the Texas national Guard to both Portlandโค and Chicago, respondingโ to a post from Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker on โX (formerly Twitter).
Pritzkerโ initially tweeted Sunday thatโ Trump was ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon,โฃ andโข other locations, without prior consultation wihtโฃ state officials. โฃAbbott responded, stating he “fully authorized the President toโค call upโ 400 members of the Texas National Guard to ensure safety forโค federal officials,” adding, “No Guard can match the training, skill, and expertise of the Texas โฃNational โฃGuard.” Pritzker subsequently labeled Trump’s actions as “Trump’s Invasion,” referencing prior deployments of federal agents.
California Governor Gavin Newsom stated โฃon X: “We just won in court -โค again. A federal judgeโ BLOCKED donald Trump’s โฃunlawful attempt โto DEPLOY 300 OF OUR NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS TO PORTLAND.”
Rayfield, in a video statement, โemphasizedโ that “The president can’t keep playing whack-a-mole w/ different states’ Guard units to โคget around court orders & the rule of law.”
The judge is scheduledโ to address whether the Second Temporary Restraining Order should be extended for another 14 โคdays. As of Tuesday morning,โฃ Trump and other seniorโ administration officials have not commented on the ruling.
