European Parliament Set to โVote on Human Rights, deforestation, and Gender Equality
Brussels – The European Parliament will today address transnational repressionโค of human rights defenders, consider streamlining the EU Deforestation Regulation, and vote on a strategy to advance gender equality across Europe. โThese key issues are amongโ a โคseries of โvotes scheduled for MEPs, alongside decisions regarding disaster relief for Spain and France, expanded powers for the European Maritime Safety Agency, and โinternational โขagreementsโฃ onโ trade and financialโ transparency.
meps will first vote on Parliament’s โinaugural report focused on the transnational repression faced by human rights defenders,โ following a plenary presentation yesterday. A vote to โคfast-track a proposal simplifying the EU Deforestation Regulation – โdesigned toโ ensure products sold within the EU โขare notโ linked to โdeforestation – is also on theโ agenda. If approved, โขa vote on the proposal’s specifics will โคoccur โคduringโค the November 24-27โ plenary session. Additionally, Parliament willโข vote onโ a report outlining steps to bolster gender equality throughout โขEurope, building on yesterday’s debate.
Beyond these core issues, MEPs will also vote on:โ mobilizing the European Union Solidarity Fund for Spain and France following natural disasters in โข2024 and 2025; granting new authorities to theโ European Maritime Safety Agency; conserving marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction; updating โฃpopulation andโข housing โคstatistics; establishing a framework for business income taxation (BEFIT); ratifying the digital Trade Agreement between the EU andโข Singapore; โขamending financial account information exchange protocols wiht Andorra, Monaco, San โMarino, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland; and confirming Nikolaos Milionis (Greece) and Pierre Moscovici (France) as members of theโ European Court โof Auditors.
