NFL Week 9 Picks Against the Spread: Three-Week Winning Streak Fuels Bold Predictions

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor October 30, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Bills Buck Trend, Predicted to Upset chiefs in Week 9 Clash

NEW YORK – In a week of ⁤intriguing NFL⁢ matchups, analysts are surprisingly leaning towards an upset in‍ Kansas City. Despite Patrick ⁢Mahomes and the Chiefs ⁤appearing to rediscover‌ their form, a⁣ consensus pick emerging from several predictions favors the Buffalo bills to cover the spread – currently at Chiefs -2 – in their Sunday afternoon showdown (4:25 p.m. ET on ‍CBS).

The rationale centers on‌ a historical pattern and the Bills’ focused roster construction. While‍ Mahomes is enjoying a‌ resurgence with a healthy⁣ receiving corps and a knack ⁢for converting fourth downs (14 of ‌16 attempts), the Bills‌ have won their last four regular-season matchups against Kansas City by an average of 8 points.

“They are coming off a rare loss in their last home game, their roster was constructed for the sole purpose‍ of beating the Chiefs ⁣and they have won the past four regular-season matchups against Kansas‍ City ‌by an average of‍ 8 points,” one ‍analyst noted.

Beyond the head-to-head record, the ‌Bills’ motivation is also a key factor. Coming ⁤off a recent home loss, they’re viewed as particularly driven to ⁢secure⁢ a‍ win against their‍ AFC rival.

Other Week 9‌ Picks Against the‍ Spread:

* Jaguars: ⁤ Favored to break ⁣their losing ‌streak against the Raiders (4:05 p.m.ET on Fox).
* ⁢ Rams: ‌ Expected to handle the Saints ⁢despite perhaps looking ahead to a ‍future ⁤game (4:05 p.m. ET on Fox).
* Commanders: Contingent on the ⁤health of quarterback Jayden Daniels‌ (8:20 p.m. ET on NBC).
* Cardinals: predicted to cover against‌ the Cowboys, despite a recent losing streak⁢ (8:15 p.m. ET on ABC/ESPN).

Best Bets: Broncos over Texans, Lions,⁤ Colts, and Rams are also highlighted as strong picks. ‍A contrarian bet suggests⁤ the panthers could cover a large spread in Green Bay.

Upset Special: The Falcons, at +200, are identified as⁢ a potential shocker, mirroring the Jets’ unexpected⁢ victory⁣ the previous week.

Fan Hospitalized After Fall at Penguins Game, marking Third major Venue Fall⁢ in Pittsburgh this‌ Year

PITTSBURGH, PA – A fan was hospitalized Monday night after a fall from ⁣the 200 level at ‍PPG ⁢Paints Arena during a Pittsburgh Penguins game against the St. Louis blues. This incident ‍marks the third time this year a person has been ‌hospitalized following a significant‍ fall at a Pittsburgh sporting venue, raising concerns about ‌safety at the city’s arenas and stadiums.

The fall occurred 55 ‌seconds into the first ‌period, around 7:10 p.m., ‌shortly after Anthony Mantha scored to give ‍the Penguins a 2-0 lead. According to a statement from the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department, the fan fell and struck⁤ an individual in ⁤a suite level before⁢ continuing to the 100 level, landing in the accessible area⁤ of Section 101,⁣ approximately 25 rows behind the Penguins’ bench. Witnesses reported the fan appeared unconscious as medical personnel provided immediate aid.

The‌ injured fan was transported ⁣to a local hospital. The Penguins and‍ OVG Management Group released a statement saying, ⁤”Even though there ‌is no further ‍facts at this time, the Penguins and OVG ⁢Management Group are closely monitoring ‌the situation. Our concerns remain with the individual and his ⁢family at this time.”

The individual struck during ‍the‌ fall was evaluated by paramedics but declined hospital treatment.

This incident⁢ follows⁢ a concerning pattern of falls ‌at Pittsburgh ‌venues. On Saturday night, a worker fell 50 feet off the scoreboard at Acrisure ⁣Stadium during preparations for a Steelers game, sustaining critical injuries. pittsburgh Public⁤ Safety ⁤confirmed the ⁣worker was rescued and transported to a ⁤hospital.

In april, a fan at a Pirates game against the Chicago Cubs fell over 20 feet from the right field seats at ⁤PNC Park,⁣ suffering injuries to his skull, ⁣spine, ribs, and lungs.kavan Markwood, 20, ‍required a lengthy hospital stay.

Monday night’s Penguins ⁢game continued uninterrupted,‌ with many attendees⁤ initially ⁤unaware of the incident. Following the ⁤game, Penguins captain ‌Sidney Crosby expressed his⁣ concern.”We⁣ just heard someone fell tonight,” ⁣Crosby⁢ said. “Doesn’t feel right to be talking about points. My thoughts and prayers to that person.”

Penguins coach Dan Muse also addressed the incident, stating, “Right after the game, we were informed that a fan⁤ fell.⁣ Just want to start⁢ off by saying thoughts and prayers are with‍ him⁢ and his family.⁤ They came here for a sport, a game, and to hear something‍ like that, that kind of puts everything else aside.”

Authorities have not yet⁢ released⁤ further ⁣details regarding ⁤the cause of⁢ Monday’s fall. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Bengals-Steelers takeaways: Evan McPherson’s game-winner caps a vintage Joe Flacco performance

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor October 17, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Bengals Edge Steelers ⁤in Thrilling Late-Game Finish

The Cincinnati‌ Bengals defeated the Pittsburgh‌ Steelers in a tightly contested ⁣game ⁤decided by a last-second field goal, 27-26. Veteran quarterback Joe‍ Flacco, recently joining the Bengals, proved instrumental in⁤ the victory, demonstrating a strong connection‍ with receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee ‌Higgins. Bengals fans welcomed Flacco’s arrival, and his performance justified their enthusiasm.

Pittsburgh’s⁣ defense, recently bolstered by acquisitions ‍like Joey Porter Jr., Darius⁤ Slay, ‌and⁤ Jalen Ramsey, struggled to contain Flacco and the Bengals’ passing attack. Flacco effectively⁢ utilized⁢ slant and crossing routes to consistently‌ find ‌Chase and Higgins. The Bengals’ success⁢ in both the‌ running‌ and passing game kept the Steelers’ pass rush off balance. ‍

A crucial ⁣moment came⁣ late in the fourth‌ quarter. Trailing⁤ by one point with⁢ 2:15 remaining, Flacco connected with Higgins for‌ a 28-yard‌ reception, putting⁢ the Bengals within field goal range.⁤ Higgins strategically ⁤slid to stop the clock and force the ⁤Steelers to use their remaining timeouts. Cincinnati⁣ ultimately secured the⁢ win ‍with a field goal with just seven seconds left, and a Hail Mary attempt by Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers fell incomplete as time expired.

Brown’s breakout performance Fuels Bengals’ Run Game

Cincinnati’s running‌ game, previously a weakness, showed significant enhancement. Running back Chase Brown, who had‌ previously ⁤averaged 2.7 yards⁢ per attempt with a long rush of 13 yards, broke off runs of 28 ⁢and 37 yards, finishing the night with ‌108 yards on 11 carries. This newfound effectiveness in the running game opened⁤ up opportunities ⁢in the passing game,⁢ though Flacco primarily focused on ⁣completing passes throughout the contest.

bengals’ defense Remains a⁢ Concern

Despite the⁣ victory, the Bengals’ defense continues to be a point of concern. The team struggled with tackling, missing 19 tackles the previous week and continuing to struggle in this game, with linebacker demetrius Knight Jr. leading the team⁣ with four missed tackles.

The absence ⁤of Trey Hendrickson⁣ due to ⁢injury exacerbated the team’s existing pass rush issues. Missed tackles contributed to over‍ 100 yards of offence for ⁣the Steelers,‍ while coverage breakdowns added another 100-plus yards. Safety Geno Stone was frequently involved in both issues. While strong plays from⁤ DJ Turner and others ⁣provided ⁢moments of stability, the defensive struggles⁤ bear a concerning resemblance ⁣to those of the previous season, raising questions about the‍ team’s ability ⁢to consistently rely on‌ offensive firepower to compensate.

Steelers’ Early ⁤Lead Undermined ⁣by Penalties and Turnovers

The Steelers initially built a 10-0 lead, but‍ a series of mistakes allowed the Bengals to regain ⁢momentum.A false start⁣ penalty on ⁣right ⁢guard Mason McCormick⁢ on a fourth-and-1 attempt from the Cincinnati 18-yard line forced the steelers to settle for ⁣a field goal. The Bengals responded with ‌a touchdown.

Immediately ‌following the field⁣ goal, Rodgers attempted a deep pass to DK Metcalf, which was intercepted. Cincinnati capitalized on the turnover, driving 37 yards in three plays to‌ take a ‌14-10 lead. The Bengals continued their scoring surge, reaching ⁤20 ‍points before the Steelers could respond.

Rodgers’ Late Touchdown not Enough

Rodgers delivered a late-game⁣ touchdown pass to ⁢Pat⁤ Freiermuth, a 68-yard connection, to give the Steelers ‌a brief lead ⁢with ⁤2:26 remaining. However, the ⁣steelers’ defense was unable to secure a⁣ stop, allowing the‍ Bengals to⁢ drive into field goal range and ultimately⁢ win ‍the game. The Steelers’ rapid scoring drive proved insufficient as their defense failed to hold the lead.

Title: Titans HC Search: Nagy, Smith, and Brady Named as Potential Candidates

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor October 15, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Titans Coaching Search focuses on Matt Nagy, Arthur Smith, While Joe Brady‘s Candidacy Appears Unlikely

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly concentrating their ‌head coaching⁢ search on two ⁣experienced offensive minds: current Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator arthur Smith, according to reports. Simultaneously occurring, Buffalo Bills offensive‌ coordinator Joe Brady is ⁢considered a less probable candidate.

Nagy, 47, previously served as the head coach of⁤ the ‍Chicago Bears from 2018-2021. He returned to the Chiefs in 2022, holding various offensive positions before becoming offensive coordinator in 2023. During his second tenure in Kansas ⁤City, the Chiefs have reached three consecutive Super Bowls, winning two. while Andy Reid calls the plays for the chiefs,Nagy has‍ a pre-existing relationship with Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi, who worked with Nagy in⁤ Kansas City from 2009-2024.

Smith,⁢ a Tennessee native, coached with the Titans from 2011-2020, including ⁢a prosperous two-year stint as offensive coordinator. He then became head coach of ⁢the Atlanta Falcons, were he posted three‍ consecutive 7-10 seasons before being dismissed. In his first year with the Steelers in 2024, Smith’s offense ranked 16th in points and 21st in yards, navigating a quarterback situation⁣ involving Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. This year, with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback,‍ the Steelers rank 14th in points per game but 29th⁣ in yards per contest.

Despite calling plays for Buffalo’s high-powered offense since 2023, 36-year-old Joe Brady is considered a less likely candidate. Following the recent dismissal of Bill Callahan after less than a year, the Titans reportedly are hesitant to hire another young, first-time head coach.

Steelers OLB Alex Highsmith Takes Step Forward in Injury Rehab

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor October 10, 2025
written by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker ‍Alex Highsmith is progressing in his recovery from‍ a rib injury and participated in individual drills during Wednesday’s practice, signaling a potential return to the ⁢field‌ sooner than initially anticipated.

Highsmith suffered the injury during the Steelers’ Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and was initially projected to miss⁣ several games. His participation, even ⁤in a limited capacity, represents a positive⁤ step toward regaining his form as a ‍key pass rusher for the‍ Steelers defense. The team placed defensive lineman Isaiahh Loudermilk on injured reserve September ⁣17th with a high ankle‍ sprain sustained during ‌the Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, further emphasizing the importance of Highsmith’s return to bolster the defensive line.

The Steelers defense relies heavily on Highsmith’s ability to generate pressure ⁢on opposing ⁢quarterbacks. ‍Last ‌season, he recorded ⁢a ⁤career-high 14.5 sacks, establishing himself as a disruptive force.‌ His⁢ absence has been felt in the early part of the season, and his⁤ return woudl‌ provide a significant boost to ‍the team’s pass rush and overall defensive performance.Alongside‍ Highsmith, running back Jaylen ⁣Warren (foot) ‌and cornerback ‌Jalen Ramsey (knee) also participated in‍ individual drills Wednesday. Calvin austin III remains out with an undisclosed injury. The Steelers ⁤will continue to monitor Highsmith’s progress throughout the week⁢ to determine his ⁣availability for their upcoming game.

Rudi Johnson Death: Bengals Running Back Dies After Suicide Investigation

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor September 24, 2025

Former Bengals ⁤Star Running Back Rudi Johnson Dies at 45

Cincinnati,⁣ OH – Former Cincinnati Bengals running back Rudi johnson has died at the age ⁤of 45, the team‌ confirmed Wednesday. While ⁣the Bengals did not release details surrounding ⁤his ‍death, the Miami-Dade ⁣Sheriff’s‌ Office is investigating, with initial indications pointing‌ to suicide, according to Detective Joseph⁤ Peguero, who⁤ told NBC News that no foul⁢ play is suspected.

Team‌ president Mike⁢ brown remembered Johnson as a “fine person” and a “dear‌ friend” in a statement. Johnson’s agent, Peter Schaffer, expressed⁤ hope ⁣that his death would spur further research into Chronic traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).

“These tragic circumstances must ⁢also serve as ⁤a call to action,” Schaffer said in ‍a statement to NBC News. “The NFL and the scientific community must do more – more research into ⁤CTE, more innovation into⁣ how ⁣we can⁤ treat it, prevent it, and provide support ⁤to those living with it. Players past, present, and future deserve nothing less.”

While CTE can only be definitively diagnosed post-mortem, it is currently ‍unconfirmed whether Johnson had the degenerative disease.

Johnson was a fourth-round selection by the Bengals in ⁤the 2001 NFL Draft. After spending his⁣ first two seasons primarily as a backup, injuries to starter Corey Dillon thrust him into a larger role in 2003, where he rushed for 957 yards and‍ nine touchdowns on⁤ 215⁢ attempts.

Following Dillon’s trade, Johnson became the starting running back in 2004 and ⁤enjoyed three highly productive⁢ seasons. From 2004-2006, he averaged 1,407 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, earning his only Pro bowl selection in 2004. He ⁤set a franchise record that‍ year with 1,454 rushing yards, a⁢ mark he surpassed in 2005⁢ with 1,458⁣ yards -⁢ a record that ‍still stands with the bengals.

The 2005 season ⁢saw the Bengals ⁣reach the playoffs, ‍where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild-card round. Johnson scored a touchdown in the defeat.

Injuries hampered Johnson in 2007, limiting him to 11 games and 497 rushing yards. He was released by the Bengals during training camp in 2008 and finished his NFL career⁣ with the Detroit Lions, where he had ‌76 rushing attempts.

Johnson returned‍ to Paul‍ Brown Stadium in 2016 for the team’s Legends Weekend, marking his first visit since his release.Former teammate Chad Johnson paid tribute to the running back on X (formerly Twitter) on tuesday. Both players were drafted by the Bengals in 2001 ⁢- Rudi in the fourth round and Chad in the second.
