Penguins Re-Assign D-Man to WBS, Activate Cody Glass

Penguins Shuffle Roster, Send St. Ivany to AHL, Activate Glass from IR

The Pittsburgh Penguins made some roster adjustments on Tuesday, reflecting the team’s ongoing efforts to find the right mix on the blue line. With offensive struggles persisting, the Penguins have sent young defenseman Jack St. Ivany down to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL.

St. Ivany, a 25-year-old right-shot defenseman, burst onto the scene late last season, forming a steady third pairing alongside Ryan Shea. His emergence coincided with the Penguins’ late-season surge, narrowly missing a playoff berth after erasing almost a nine-point deficit.

This year has been a different story for St. Ivany. In 14 games, he

has managed only one assist and carries a minus-3 rating. Several costly defensive lapses have resulted in goals against, raising

concerns about his readiness for top-level competition.

This move comes as no surprise. St. Ivany, signed as a college free agent by the Penguins in 2022, was initially drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2018. Ironically, former Penguins General Manager Ron Hextall, who drafted St. Ivany while with the Flyers, also orchestrated his signing in Pittsburgh.

To make room for the reassignment, the Penguins activated forward Cody Glass from injured reserve. Acquired in a trade last August, Glass has been a versatile presence in the Penguins’ lineup, filling various roles in his first 14 games.

While Glass has tallied four assists this season, the elusive first goal in Pittsburgh remains just out of reach. He has been sidelined since November 7th after suffering a concussion in a collision with teammate Lars Eller.

"

"

It remains to be seen how long St. Ivany will spend in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. However, this move presents an opportunity for him to regain his confidence and develop his game away from the intense scrutiny of the NHL spotlight. For Glass, the return to the Penguins’ lineup provides a chance to build on his promising start and contribute to their ongoing quest for a playoff berth.

NHL: dream start! Rangers overrun Penguins

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com October 10, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The New York Rangers can celebrate a very successful start to the new NHL season! They achieved a clear 6-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.

Already after the first third things are pretty clear: Carrick (3rd), Lafreniere (18th) and Kreider (20th) ensure a 3-0 lead before the first half-time siren. Another goal from Cuylle is disallowed after a trainer challenge (10th).

The Penguins got into the game better in the second period, but Shesterkin ruined promising attempts. On the other side, Chytil made the preliminary decision (30th).

The final third was similar, Kreider crowned a strong performance and made it 5-0 with a shorthander (52nd). Trocheck also scores in the last minutes (57th).

Montreal celebrates in a close Canada duel

The Montreal Canadiens also have reason to be happy about a successful start. They surprisingly won the domestic Canadian duel against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a narrow 1-0.

Caufield scored the final gold goal in the first third on the power play (8th). As the game continued, the Maple Leafs ran in vain. Canadiens goalie Montembeault played a large part in the prestigious success, as he was able to thwart all 45 attempts by Matthews & Co.

Torfestival in Las Vegas

The fans in Las Vegas experienced a score-filled evening with no fewer than 12 goals, where the Golden Knights won 8-4 against the Colorado Avalanche.

The guests make it 1-0 through Rantanen (11th), but are behind 1-3 after the first third. Until the beginning of the final third, they stayed within 4:5 before Stone (49th), Barbashev (54th) and Howden (20th, empty net) made the decision.

Jágr’s open confession: I weighed 122 kilos. It was difficult, I didn’t like hockey Now.cz

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com October 5, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Since his Kladno Knights, for whom he still plays, will not play until Sunday, Jaromír Jágr made time for the start of NHL hockey in the O2 arena in Prague. He threw ceremonial balls between New Jersey’s Ondřej Palát and Buffalo’s Rasmus Dahlin to greet the audience. He also spoke to the NHL’s official website.

The legendary Jaromír Jágr presented the ceremonial bulls before the new NHL season. | Video: NHL.com

About the current season for Kladno:

“After I went to Pittsburgh last year (to remove number 68 jersey – editor’s note)I decided that I only want to do things that make me happy. And I lost weight. And it is very heavy, I weighed 122 kilos, so it was difficult for me to play it. I wanted to be good, but I was too heavy. I didn’t enjoy playing it. I was afraid I would get hurt because I was just too heavy. So I lost weight. I’m the same weight I was when I played in the NHL. So I’m not tired and I like it a lot more than a few years ago.”

What else motivates him to train and play:

“I’ve been doing it my whole life since I was two, three years old. So it’s like I don’t mind going to the field. It’s me, so if – there is no one, I go. Like when people go to get it, I skate by myself. It just makes me so free and happy there . I don’t know. I didn’t expect to win this. Just like my father, who was a farmer until he died.”

About the opportunity to work for Pittsburgh:

“I’ve already said it in Pittsburgh – I finally know where I’m from. I’ve played on so many teams and I’ve loved every minute of it, but I’ve spent most of my time in Pittsburgh and I feel like I belong there. I’m a Penguin just give the other side feeling advice. Not all players think so.

On his memories of the Devils, for whom he scored his last NHL hat trick less than ten years ago:

“Has it been ten years? I had a lot of fun there too. It was right after I lost to Boston in the Stanley Cup Final. I didn’t know where I was going to play because they told me in Boston that they weren’t’ And I had a bit of luck because (Ilya) Kovalchuk was going to Russia and they were looking for a proper player, we became good friends from that day and I’m very happy to see him.
