Pierce the Veil’s latest album, The Jaws of Life, arriving after a โseven-year recording hiatus, is already โขfueling a creative surge for โthe band, informed by both โคtragedy and viral โคsuccess. Theโค album, born from a periodโข of personal lossโ andโ creative recalibration, is not only resonating with longtime fans but also attracting a new audience through TikTok, positioning the band for a quicker return to the studio.
the album’s โคcreation was deeply impacted by the passing of vocalist vic Fuentes‘s sister. Fuentes channeled grief and a desire โคforโ renewed creative energy intoโ the โฃproject, ultimately choosing New Orleans as the recording โlocation for its โunique atmosphere.โ “We wanted toโข make โsomething that felt really special and different,” Fuentes explained, aโ sentiment reflected inโค the โคalbum’s blend of aggressive energy โฃand introspective lyrics.
The first song recorded, “Pass the Nirvana,” was conceived as an aggressive opener, built around a “growling guitar riff” and a nod to grunge influences. fuentes even directly references producer Paul Meany โขin the lyrics:โ “power until the target bleeds / Thisโค gun (this โgun) will โneverโค turnโข on me /โ So, Paulโค Meany, will you drop that beat?” He now considers it oneโ of his favorite โขsongs to perform live, describingโข the โwriting process asโค “weird” and “hard to โfigure out.”
In contrast โto the song’s intensity,”Soโ Far So Fake” has become a viral sensationโข on TikTok,with users creating videos featuring “slinky butt moves.” Fuentes jokes about hoping for “the sexiest trend in music,” but acknowledges the song’s role in expanding the band’s fanbase.
The band experienced a similar โฃboost with the โขsong “King for a Day” โฃduring a period ofโ inactivity,a phenomenon Fuentes attributes โฃto fan engagement. “You โขjust gotta sit back and be thankful for the fans doing itโฃ and โฃjust ride it and โคsee what happens,” he said.
Looking โahead, Pierce the Veil intends to maintain momentum and avoid โฃanother lengthyโ gap betweenโค albums. Guitarist Tony Preciado emphasized the desire to “not take seven years” โfor the โnext release, โฃa sentiment echoed by Fuentes, who highlighted the positive “flow-state” within the band andโ their โentire creative team.”We want to keep the ball rolling and keep the creativity flowing,” Fuentes stated. โThey are already discussing a newโ recording location โคtoโ inspire their โคnext project.
