Colombia’s national baseball team will debut in the 2026 World Baseball Classic this Friday, March 6th, against Puerto Rico at Édgar Rentería stadium in Barranquilla, with gates opening at 5:00 pm local time and the first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm.
The match marks the beginning of Colombia’s third participation in the international tournament. The team, led by manager José Mosquera Crissón, features prominent players including José Quintana, Harold Ramírez, Julio Teherán, and Giovanni Urshela, according to organizers.
The event will also host a “Picnic on the Diamond,” a fan engagement initiative mirroring a successful campaign held last October during the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays. Farid Bird, operations and events manager, described the event as the first off-season activity for the Caimanes organization, designed to maintain connections with fans throughout the year. “Picnic at the Diamond will be the first Caimanes activity in the off-season, a space created to remain connected with our fans throughout the year,” Bird stated.
Beyond fan engagement, the event aims to raise funds for a new team foundation intended to support young athletes. “As an organization, it fills us with joy to create these spaces for our loyal fans, who always accompany us,” Bird added. “these events will allow us to continue growing and, as a first, initiate to raise resources to impact the lives of young athletes through our foundation, which we will launch soon.”
Ticket prices range from $20,000 for general admission (grades – Modules 120 to 127) to $40,000 for VIP access, which includes access to the playing field and a picnic kit. Season ticket holders for the 2025-2026 season will receive a 25% discount on ticket purchases, available through Tuboleta.
