WASHINGTON – The James Webb Space Telescope for the first time detecting three bright objects that are thought to be dark stars (Dark Stars) formed from dark matter (Dark Matter). Dark star is a hypothetical object that doesn’t shine like a normal star, but rather generates heat from dark matter particles annihilating each other in its core.

If there were, the dark star would be far more massive than an ordinary star, containing the mass of 10 million Suns and emitting 10 billion brightness. Dark stars are also 10,000 times wider, meaning that if the Sun were a dark star, it would fill the entire solar system, with its outer surface located near the orbit of Pluto.

Astronomers in the new study identified three first dark star candidates in the James Webb Telescope data. Three bright bodies, named JADES-GS-z13-0, JADES-GS-z12-0, and JADES-GS-z11-0, were discovered by Webb in December 2022 and are considered to be galaxies.

However, spectroscopic analysis shows that they have some of the properties expected of dark stars. Of course, as interesting as the idea is, the research is highly speculative.

“But if some objects that look like early galaxies are actually dark stars, the simulation of galaxy formation fits the observations better,” said Katherine Freese, co-author of the study.

Models suggest that dark stars may have existed in the early universe, and may actually help explain the mystery of why there were so many large galaxies in the early universe. Once the dark matter “fuel” in its core is used up, the ordinary matter that makes up most stars collapses into a black hole, potentially providing the seeds for supermassive black holes.

This could speed up the process of galaxy formation. Other “too early” galaxies might just be dark stars themselves, as they would look similar from this distance. This research is published in the journal PNAS.

We not only don’t know if dark stars exist, but we also don’t fully know if dark matter exists to power them. Even so, dark matter must exist in some of the proposed forms.

Thankfully, like any good hypothesis, these dark stars can be tested. Future observations from Webb could investigate certain properties, including the dimming or excess of light intensity in certain frequency bands, that could help identify these objects.

Stars generate their energy by fusing hydrogen into helium deep within their core. When a star accumulates enough helium in its core, its energy increases significantly, and it swells to become a red giant, such as Betelgeuse in the constellation Orion.

That’s what we see now, even though the exploding star didn’t actually happen last week, because galaxy M101 is located about 21 million light years from Earth. So the light resulting from this explosion traveled through space for 21 million years before reaching Earth.

Astronomers will certainly continue to monitor the supernova for the foreseeable future, noting any fluctuations in brightness before they fade.

LONDON – Astronomers still don’t know the exact cause cosmic explosion the largest in the universe named AT2021lwx. However, astronomers suspect the explosion, which is roughly 100 times the energy of the sun, was triggered by activity black hole .

Astronomers say that in the universe’s 6 billion year old activity, this is the most powerful cosmic explosion. This explosion is also the most mysterious because it lasts for many years and is 10 times as bright as a supernova.

“Most of the supernova events and tidal disruptions (tidal disruption) or bright flashes that occur when a black hole rips apart a wandering star last only a few months. For a bright object to occur for more than two years is very unusual,” said Philip Wiseman, an astronomer at the University of Southampton in England, quoted by SINDOnews from the Live Science page, Tuesday (16/5/2023).

Astronomers suspect the cataclysmic event AT2021lwx, which is 8 billion light years from Earth, was triggered by a messy black hole. Indeed, the cause is still mysterious, it’s just that the biggest possibility is due to a giant cloud of hydrogen gas that is thousands of times bigger than the sun being devoured by a supermassive black hole.

As the chunk of cloud is engulfed, a shockwave travels through the remaining hot gas, producing a gigantic explosion whose light has been bombarding Earth for more than two years and has not yet been extinguished. “We found this by chance, as indicated by our search algorithm when we were looking for a type of supernova,” said Philip Wiseman.

Using two telescope systems designed to survey the sky the researchers detect the bright, flashing lights from distant events. The two telescopes used are the Zwicky Transient Facility in California and the Terrestrial-impact Asteroid Final Warning System (ATLAS) in Hawaii.

It is known that black holes are born from the collapse of giant stars and grow by devouring gas, dust, stars and other black holes. For some voracious black holes, friction causes material swirling into their jaws to heat up and emit light that telescopes can detect and turn it into what’s called an active galactic nucleus (AGN).

WASHINGTON – Astronomers recorded cosmic explosion greatest happening in the universe nicknamed “Scary Barbie”. This cosmic explosion resulted very bright light and lasts a very long time, about 3 years.

This event was reported in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society Study submitted by two independent groups. In their paper they define the explosion as AT2021lwx, otherwise known as ZTF20abrbeie.

In the study, it was explained that the event was a star that was torn apart by a supermassive black hole or known as the phenomenon of tidal disruption. Scary Barbie is three times brighter than the brightest tidal disruption event ever recorded.

The second paper argues that supermassive black holes don’t rip apart and eat up stars about 15 times the mass of the Sun. Instead it feeds on a more massive cloud of gas about 1,000 times heavier than the Sun.

“Initially, we thought this explosion could be the result of a black hole eating a passing star. But it turns out that this black hole swallows 15 times the mass of the Sun, making it very bright,” said Dr Matt Nicholl from Queen University Belfast quoted SINDOnews from the IFLScience page, Monday (15/5/2023).

The uniqueness of Scary Barbie is not only about the energy that is emitted so brightly, but also about a long duration of about three years. Usually supernova events or tidal disturbances are only visible for a few months and are not as bright.

“Meeting such a big star is very rare. Many massive black holes are surrounded by gas and dust and we are still trying to figure out why these black holes started eating so quickly and suddenly,” said Nicholl.

Even transient events that can be this bright, such as the recently brightest gamma-ray burst GRB 221009A (which was actually even brighter), last for minutes, not years.

FLORIDA – For astronomer NASA found a strange glowing object that emits about 10 million times more energy than sun . Luminous objects known as ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULX) violate existing laws of physics.

New observations, published in The Astrophysical Journal from NASA’s Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR), record this strange, glowing object in deep space. A source of high-energy X-ray energy, this is codenamed M82 X-2.

So far, scientists have thought that ULXs, or ultraluminous x-ray sources, are black holes. However, M82 X-2 is an object known as a neutron star. Neutron stars are the remnant, dead core of stars like the sun.

Neutron stars are so dense that the gravity on their surface is about 100 trillion times stronger than Earth’s. This intense gravity means that any material pulled onto the surface of the dead star will have an explosive effect.

“A marshmallow dropped on the surface of a neutron star will hit it with the energy of a thousand hydrogen bombs,” according to NASA, quoted by SINDOnews from the Space page, Wednesday (10/5/2023).

The new study finds that M82 X-2 consumes about 1.5 of Earth’s matter each year, siphoning it from neighboring stars. When this amount of matter hits the surface of a neutron star, the energy is enough to produce the extraordinary brightness that astronomers observe.

However, this amount of energy released violates a theoretical law of physics known as the Eddington limit, which determines how bright something of a given size is. Typically, ULX alone regularly exceeds the energy limit by about 100 to 500 times.
