A man in his 60s died in a workplace incident Saturday at a grain facility near Merredin, in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt region.
Emergency services responded to the incident around 12:30pm at the property of prominent WA farmer John nicoletti, approximately 260 kilometers northeast of Perth. initial reports suggested the incident occurred at the nearby Merredin CBH site, but authorities confirmed the death occurred on Mr. Nicoletti‘s land.Mr. Nicoletti, known as the “grain king,” stated a contractor building silos on his property alerted him to the situation. Merredin CBH area manager Jerome O’Malley explained that emergency services were initially directed to the CBH sample sheds before being redirected to Mr. Nicoletti’s site, which includes four silos, two currently under construction.
St John WA paramedics confirmed the death of a 63-year-old man upon arrival. Worksafe has been notified and is sending investigators to the scene. The precise location of the incident remains unclear. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
