Reimagining Vermont Higher Education for a Changing โFuture
The Vermont State Colleges System (VSC) is undergoing a notable transformation,โฃ driven by a commitment to accessibility,โข responsiveness, adn relevance for all Vermont learners. Recent state investment has provided crucial stability, allowingโ us to focus on โฃmodernization and buildingโค a system designed to meet the โevolving needsโข ofโข students, communities, and the Vermont โฃeconomy.
This โmodernization centers on adaptability. โRecognizing that the โขconventional academic calendar andโค course format aren’t universally suitable, weโ areโฃ expanding online and hybrid learning โคoptions. This includes courses offered โat times convenient for working โadultsโ and other students – evenings, weekends – alongsideโ self-paced learning and “stackable” courses that buildโค towardsโค degreesโข andโข credentials.
We are โstrengthening pathways between โCommunity College of โคVermont (CCV) and Vermont State University (VTSU), recognizing that students may benefit โคfrom transferring between institutions. Currently, nearly half of CCV students who transfer โคchoose VTSU, demonstrating a strongโ alignment weโ aim to further develop. โThis also includes supporting students who may needโ toโ move back to CCV to complete their goals.
This evolution isn’t solely โfocused โขon โprogram delivery. We are also reimagining our campuses as year-round centers of learning and community vitality. this involves exploring year-round โขhousing โฃoptions for working learners, revitalizing underutilized โspaces through partnerships,โค and ensuring our campuses โคserve as anchors for the ruralโ towns they inhabit.
crucially, this work is being done while continuing toโค support traditionalโ residential students, athletes,โค and those who benefit from in-person learning. We remain committed to fostering campus life, โฃincludingโ clubs, activities, and theโค artsโ and humanities, to โฃcultivate critical thinkers โขandโ future โleaders.
To ensure success, we areโ prioritizing continuous evaluation, faster partnerships with employers to co-develop relevant programs, and maintaining affordability. Initiatives likeโฃ 802Opportunity โขand Freedom & unity will be expanded to remove financial โคbarriers for Vermontersโ in need.
This is โnot a one-time โขfix, but an โongoing processโ of adaptation and growth. We are not simply โคpreserving a system;โข we โคare actively building the Vermont we envision – one where education is accessible โto all ages, campuses drive community โฃrenewal,โข entrepreneurs can thrive, โand the workforce is prepared for the future. Our goal is โขto make learning and prospect โขaโค promise, not โขa priviledge,โข for every Vermonter.
