Sampoerna Invests $300 โคmillion inโ Indonesian Manufacturing & Research, Launching State-of-the-Art “Superlab“
Jakarta, indonesia – PT HM sampoerna tbk is makingโข a significant investment in Indonesia‘sโค scientificโข future, committing US $300 โmillion (approximately Rp 4.87 โขtrillion, based on an exchange rate of โRp 16,230)โค to the construction of a new factory โand a cutting-edgeโค research facility,โข dubbed a “superlab.” โTheโ initiative, announced Saturday, August 23, โค2025, is poised toโ engage โฃ200 Indonesian scientists and position theโ nation as a keyโค hub forโค innovation withinโข the philip morris International network.
Speaking at a Live Podcast Endgame โevent in South Jakarta, PT โHMโ Sampoerna Tbk President Director Ivan Cahyadi โemphasized the company’s โdedicationโข to bolsteringโ Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)โข fields. “Sampoerna has just invested in the most recentโ factory โfor the world of Philip Morris – US $300 million,” Cahyadi stated.”We beat out other countries for this investmentโ in Indonesia. โขAnd this isn’t just a factory; we are building a superlab, oneโฃ ofโค only two in the world, involving 200 Indonesian scientists.”
Currently,โ the Sampoerna researchโ and โฃdevelopment team is finalizing plans โforโค the superlab in Switzerland, โthe location of the parent company’s headquarters. While the immediate impact โคwill beโ the โคemployment of 200โ researchers, Cahyadi expressed โขconfidence in a considerable “multiplier effect” for Indonesia’s scientific and economic landscape.
“It is mathematical like that, but there is โalways a multiplier, and this โmultiplier can create a miracle later โif this is managed properly and correctly,” he explained.โ He underscored the importance of providing a platform and โopportunities โfor Indonesian talent, believing that a meritocratic environment will โฃaccelerate innovation.
Cahyadi illustrated this โpoint withโ the success of the Sampoerna Retail Community (SRC)โ program.initiallyโข encompassing 9,000 grocery stores after years of operation, the program experienced explosive growth following the introduction of targetedโค assistance โขto members. Within 2-3 years, membership surged to 30,000, and currently stands at 290,000 โคstores – representing 11% of Indonesia’sโฃ retail GDP.
“This has โฃno โขcount.โข Logically thinking, thisโฃ will not enter, want to add how much every year. But when the tipping point occurs, the multiplierโฃ occurs, the figure can enter,” Cahyadi noted,โ drawing a parallel to the potential impact of the new superlab and its scientific workforce.
