Pentagon Clears Tomahawk Missiles for ukraine,Decision Now with Trump
WASHINGTON D.C. – Teh Pentagon has approved a potential transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, according to reports Friday, but the final decision rests with President Donald Trump. The move would provide Ukraine with the capability to strike targets deep within Russian territory, a prospect russia has warned against.
Three U.S.and European officials, speaking to CNN, confirmed the Pentagon assessed the delivery would not negatively impact U.S. missile stockpiles. This assessment has moved the decision to the White House for final approval.
The potential delivery comes after a shifting stance from Trump. In early October, he initially indicated openness to providing the missiles to Ukraine. however, following a phone call with Russian President vladimir Putin, Trump signaled he was reconsidering, citing concerns about potential escalation.
Putin subsequently stated that attacks on Russian territory using Tomahawk missiles or other long-range weapons would elicit a “overwhelming” response from Moscow.
Russia has consistently opposed the provision of advanced weaponry to Ukraine, with foreign ministry spokeswoman Marija Zakharova stating today, according to TASS, that such deliveries would not contribute to a resolution of the conflict. ”It is clear and proven both by the current situation and the overall situation that militarization and the supply of weapons, especially to the terrorist regime, will not bring anyone any settlement,” Zakharova said, referring to the Ukrainian political leadership as a “terrorist regime.” Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reciprocates this accusation, labeling Russian leadership as terrorists.
ukraine, invaded by Russia in February 2022, has been seeking long-range missile capabilities to counter Russian military operations. The Tomahawk missile,a precision-guided cruise missile, would significantly extend Ukraine’s strike range.
