Trump Credits Erdoฤan‘s Role in Securing Gaza Ceasefire Ahead of โฃSharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit
SHARM EL-SHEIKH, โEGYPT โค-โค October 10, โ2023 – US โขPresident Donald Trump โคannounced today thatโ israel andโฃ Hamas have agreed to the first โphase of a ceasefire planโ in Gaza, โคattributing โขa key role in the negotiations to Turkish President Recep Tayyip erdoฤan. The announcement came as Trump prepared to attend the Sharm โEl-Sheikh peace Summit in Egypt, alongside President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and leadersโ from over 20 countries.
“President Erdoฤan was very helpful โin getting this done,” Trump statedโ on October 9th, referring to the ceasefire agreement. The agreement, โsigned in Egypt following ongoing negotiations, went into effect in the early โhours โof October 10th with Israeli government approval.
The Sharm El-Sheikhโ Peace Summit โคbrings together a diverse group of international leaders, including โEgyptian President al-Sisi,โฃ US President Trump, Turkish President Erdoฤan, Jordanian โKing Abdullah II, Qatar’s Emir Sheikhโ Tamim bin โhamed Al Thani, bahrain’s King Hamed bin Isa al Khalifa, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and French President Emmanuel Macron. Theโ ceasefire comes after a period โคof intense conflict. Betweenโค October 8, 2023, and the implementation โof the ceasefire, attacksโ in the Gaza โคStrip โresulted โคin 67,682 fatalities and 170,033 injuries, according to reports.
Trump is expected toโ return to the USA on Tuesday, followingโ a prior โขvisitโข to Israel where he met โขwith families of Israeli prisoners and addressed the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament.
