Arched Pavilion โฃOpens in Manhattan‘s Flood-Resilientโค Wagner park
NEWโ YORK, NY – Thomas Phifer andโ Partners has completed work on a striking โขarched pavilion within Wagner Park, โa key component of a larger resiliency project designed to โprotect Lower Manhattan from rising sea levels and increased flooding. The newly unveiled structure, alongsideโฃ park-wide improvements โled byโฃ AECOM, offers both a public amenity and a critical defense against the growing threat of coastal climate change.
Asโ global heating drives โฃsea level rise, coastal cities face escalating risks from storm surges and flooding. Wagnerโค Park’sโค redesign, completed in Septemberโ 2025, exemplifies a proactive approach toโข urban resilience, โintegrating flood protection โขmeasures with accessible public space. The project joins a growing international trend of incorporating resiliency strategies into park โขdesign, with similar initiativesโ underway in Copenhagen and Randers, Denmark. The parkโ isโข part of a broader effort โto safeguard Manhattan’s waterfront and ensure its long-term viability.
The redesigned Wagner Parkโค features a range ofโค flood-mitigation strategies alongsideโ the pavilion. The โขBattery Park โCity Authority oversaw โคthe project, with โขAECOM โฃleading landscapeโฃ architecture and urbanโฃ design. โคSite Works served as the โคlandscape architect of record.
