Jakarta, Indonesia โ -โข Bripka Rohmat, the driver of the Rantis Brimob vehicle involved in the deathโข of Affan during protests โคinโ Jakarta lastโ August, has been sanctioned wiht a seven-year demotion, according to a statement released yesterday by Kombes Senior Council heri Setiawan, Chairman of theโ National Police’sโ Disciplinary Council (KKEP).โฃ The decision follows an investigation into the incident that sparked widespread demonstrations and unrest across Indonesia.
Affan, a food delivery driver who was not participating in the protests, โwas fatally struck by the vehicleโข on Augustโข 28, 2025, in the Penjimnihan area of Pejompongan, Central Jakarta. His death ignited a wave of demonstrations demanding justice and broaderโฃ governmental reform, escalating into clashes โฃwith authorities andโ acts of vandalism targeting the homesโ of members of the DPR and Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani. The unrest resulted in ten fatalities and over 1,000 arrests,โ with some detainees afterward released.
“The disciplinary action โฃtakenโฃ against Bripka Rohmat reflects the seriousness with which the โขNational Police views โthis incident,” stated Setiawan. “Dismissal wasโ not respectfully considered as a member of โthe National Police.”
