Lawyer Claims FBI Focused โคonโ Online Talk, Gun Activity in Michigan terrorism Case
DETROIT – Nov.โฃ 1, 2025 -โ The lawyer representingโค a โsuspect in โa recently disrupted alleged terrorist plot in Michigan assertsโ theโ case centers on protected freeโ speech and lawful gun activity,โข notโ aโข concrete plan to commit violence.Attorney Bill โขMakled contends the FBI targeted his clientโ based on online conversations โขand firearm ownership, characterizing the situationโ as reminiscent of a previously dismissed militia case.
Makled stated his client is “certainly scared” โขand concernedโฃ about “political pressure from โขWashington” and the potential impact on his family. “He’s certainly concerned,”โ Makledโ said. โค”He’s certainly concerned about the political pressure from Washington.โ He’s worriedโฃ about โhis family โฃand what โคcould โคpotentiallyโข happen.”
The defence maintains there was noโ intent โto cause harm, describing the exchanges as “friends talking tough on the internet.” Makledโ urged the U.S. attorney’sโค Office โฃto recognizeโ “there’s nothingโฃ there.”
The FBI and the U.S. โฃAttorney’s Office โคhave declined to comment on the case. When questioned about the useโค ofโ undercover agents, Makled responded, “I don’t know,โค because โthere’s no plotโข to uncover.”
Makled drew parallels โคto theโ 2012 Hutaree trial, where โseven defendants were acquitted after the judge agreed theโ group’s talkโข of violence โคamounted to โ”playingโข army” and lacked โa concrete plan. “This isโฃ like hutaree 101,” he said,โข adding, “I don’t know what the government hasโ yet … but it’sโค giving meโ those Hutaree vibes.”
The case unfolded asโฃ FBI director Kash Patel announced the thwarting of a potential terrorist attack in Michigan โon Oct. 31, 2025. โค
The family of the โคsuspect expressed hope the U.S. attorney’s Office would dismiss the case, believing their son was not radicalized or involved in any terrorist plot. “Thay’re praying โฃand โhoping thatโฃ nothing comes out of this,” โฃmakled said.
