After the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, President Andrรฉs Manuel Lรณpez Obrador made a โspecial mentionโ for the Mexican athletes who won 17 medals for the country.
Opening the morning press conference on Monday, one day after the closing of the Paralympic Games, the federal president highlighted the work of his fellow countrymen โwho are representing us and doing very well.โ
He confirmed that the national representatives won three gold medals, six silver medals and eight bronze medals.
The gold medals, he noted, were won by Juan Pablo Cervantes and Gloria Zarza, in athletics; and by Josรฉ Arnulfo Castorena, in swimming.
The six silver medals went to Edgar Fuentes and Gilda Cota in athletics; รngel Camacho and Haidee Aceves in swimming; and Luis Nรกjera in taekwondo.
The bronze medals were won in athletics by Rosa Guerrero and Osiris Machado; in weightlifting by Amalia Pรฉrez and Josรฉ Castillo; in swimming by รngel Jesรบs Camacho and Jesรบs Gutiรฉrrez; and in taekwondo by Juan Garcรญa.
โA round of applause for them!โ the president said to celebrate the Mexican delegationโs medal haul.
The Mexican Paralympic team that participated in Paris 2024 was made up of 67 athletes.
The head of the Executive stated that on September 17, the economic prizes will be awarded to the athletes who participated in both the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024, including coaches, doctors and all those who made up the national delegations.
Those who won medals will be given โa little more,โ he said.
โThe two delegations will receive awards from the federal government’s Institute for Returning Stolen Goods to the People, from what is confiscated from criminals and corrupt individuals. They will receive support from that. All members of the delegations will receive support.โ
