Pakistan to Honor Official Who Retained Asia cup Trophy After India‘s Victory
Karachi – Pakistan is set to honour Mohsin Naqvi, the current โขcaretaker Minister for Interior andโค formerโ Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) andโข Asian Cricket โฃCouncil (ACC), with a medal in a ceremony โin Karachi. The recognition comes despite recent controversy surrounding Naqvi’s actions following the asia Cup final, โขwhere India defeated Pakistan.
After โIndia’s win in the Asia Cup final,โฃ the Indian team refused โคto accept โขthe trophy from Naqvi, reportedly due to a controversialโ social media post he had shared.Naqvi subsequently โdecided toโ take the trophy himself,a โmoveโ that drew widespread criticism and ridicule on social media.โฃ
Naqvi has maintained he did nothing wrong and has refused to apologise to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In a recent social โmedia post, he stated, “As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day and I โคam still ready now.If they truly want it, they โฃare welcome to come to the ACC office and collectโ it from โmeโฆLet me makeโฃ it absolutely clear: I have done nothing wrong and I haveโ never apologised โขto the BCCI nor will Iโข ever do โฃso.”
The BCCI is โฃexpected to raise the issue during the International โคCricket Council (ICC) meeting in November, accordingโ to PTI reports.
Bilawal Bhutto, chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party and grandsonโ of former Prime Minister โZulfiqar Ali Bhutto, hasโ been invited to attend the ceremony โฃwhere Naqviโข will be awarded the medal.
The incident follows other โcontroversiesโ involving Naqvi during the Asia Cup, including a decision to deduct 30% of bowler Haris Rauf’s โขmatch feesโ for a controversial celebration after aโข match against India. Naqvi responded by offering to personally cover the โฃdeducted amount.
india and Pakistan played each otherโฃ three times during the Asia Cup, with โIndia โคwinning all three encounters. Tensions โคbetween the two โคcountries remain high following โคthe April 22 Pahalgam โขterror attacks and India’s subsequent Operation โSindoor targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan in May.
