Classes Canceled After fire atโ Rose Avenue Elementary in Oxnard
OXNARD, Calif. – โคClasses were canceled Monday at Rose Avenue Elementary School in Oxnard after a fire brokeโ out in an older โsection of the campus earlyโ this morning.The Ventura County Fire Departmentโ responded โto the scene at approximately โข3:13 a.m., โfinding โthe older portion of the school fully engulfed in flames.
firefighters worked โฃthrough the morning to extinguish the blaze and monitor for hot spots, temporarily โclosing portions ofโฃ nearby Disco Avenue. Smokeโฃ from the โfire โwas visible across Oxnard, drawing concern from residents.
fortunately,the affected area of the school was already undergoing demolition as โคpart of a larger rebuilding and remodeling project. โขAccording to Oxnardโ School Districtโ Superintendent Dr. Ana DeGenna, “The โคdamage, fortunately, isโค happening in the old part of theโฃ school, which was in the process of being torn down.So โweโ were in demolition stages. The new school at thisโค time appears โคto be undamaged.”
The cause โof the fire is currently under inquiry. Whileโฃ the fullโข extent of โคthe damage is still being assessed, district officials haveโข confirmed that โclasses will resume Tuesday โmorning.
No injuries were โreportedโ as a result โขofโค the โฃfire. Parents were notified ofโข the school closure before the start of the school day.
