Apple TV+ has officially renewed the owen Wilson-led golf comedy Shrink for a second season. The series, created by Jason Keller, stars Wilson, who also serves as an executive producer.The returning cast for the sophomore season includes Peter Dager, Marc Maron, Mariana Treviรฑo, and Lilli Kay.
The renewal proclamation comes on the heels of the season one finale, which premiered on Wednesday. “I am inspired and humbled by the audience reaction to Shrink, and I’m thrilled to be making a second season with this magical cast, led by the incomparable Owen Wilson, and the fantastic creative team at Apple TV+,” Keller stated.”It’s a joy to be able to continue this story. Most importantly,however,this season two order will provide me with an undeniable excuse to play even more golf. Thank you, Apple TV+.”
Season one of Shrink garnered generally positive reviews, including from The Hollywood Reporter. However, the series has faced some criticism within the online golfing community, which has expressed a desire for more realistic simulation. It remains to be seen if the second season will address these specific concerns.
Wilson expressed his enthusiasm for the continuation, saying, “We all had a great time making it. It’s really nice to see the show connecting with people and to know that we get a chance to continue the story!”
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, commented on the renewal, stating, “With the first season of Shrink, audiences instantly fell in love with the charming, funny and heartfelt world that Jason, Owen and their all-star team created. There’s plenty more in the bag for fans of the series and we’re thrilled they’ll soon have the chance to discover Pryce Cahill‘s next chapter.”
In Shrink, Wilson portrays Pryce Cahill, an “over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago.” The series logline further explains that after his marriage collapses and while working at an Indiana sporting goods store, Pryce places all his bets on a promising but troubled 17-year-old golf prodigy named Santi, played by Dager.
The executive producing team for Shrink also includes Ben Silverman for Propagate Content and Guymon Casady for Entertainment 360, along with Howard T. Owens, Rodney Ferrell, Drew Buckley, Lee Eisenberg, Natalie Sandy, Christopher Moynihan, Bill Callahan, Valerie Faris, Jonathan Dayton, and Jaffar Mahmood. Directing duties for episodes are shared by Faris, Dayton, Mahmood, David Dobkin, MJ Delaney, and John Hamburg.
