As a child, Megan was told she was overweight and poorly raised, simply because she was heavier than her peers. “That wasn’t nice, because it was just how I was. And yes, I just can’t help it.”
Medication Injection
This situation changed dramatically when megan turned nine and a treatment became available for the genetic obesity she suffers from. She was able to participate in a study for a new medication designed to alleviate her constant hunger.
Ilonka described the day as “full of tears of joy.” She explained,”This was truly the solution for us to make her life as pleasant as possible,so she wouldn’t have to fight that hunger every time.” Megan now administers a daily injection into her abdomen each morning.
‘transformed into a Free Girl’
Ilonka observed a positive shift in her daughter’s demeanor. “She transformed from a girl consumed by her condition into a free girl. Happier too, because I believe the obsession with food made her unhappy, as constantly being told ‘no’ is also unpleasant.”
Megan herself feels more cozy in her own skin. “Yes, I’m also less hungry, and that’s just much better,” she concluded.”Before, I thought: this is just how I am, so I can’t do certain things. But now I think: I’m already much better,so I can do the things I want to do.”
