Affoltern, Switzerland – A recent test drive of a battery-electric Scania truck by Otto reinhard Transport GmbH highlighted the growing viability of electric trucks for daily operations, while simultaneously exposing meaningful shortcomings in the available charging infrastructure.
Charging Infrastructure Remains a hurdle
The primary challenge identified during the trial was the availability and suitability of charging infrastructure. A scenario where only a 32A connection was available at a location meant the truck’s battery could only be charged to 45 percent overnight, necessitating a subsequent charge.
