Snooker Legendโค Ronnieโค O’Sullivan Reveals Pursuit of “Impossible” & โขFuture โคPlans
LONDON – Seven-time World โSnooker Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has โฃrevealed the driving force โbehind โhis legendary career: a fascination with manipulating the physics of the game to achieve the seemingly impossible. In a recent interview, O’Sullivan described his approach as an attempt toโค “overcome physics โand โturn it โoff,” emphasizing the constant learning and curiosity requiredโ to reach the highest levels of the โsport.
“I have โคto manipulate the โคball โto make it doโค what it’s supposed โto โขdo. That’s the fascination,” O’Sullivan explained. “I have to overcome physicsโค and turn it off.Iโ enjoy โcreating the impossible. The greatโข athletes work towards it and always remain curious, constantly โwanting to learn more. โคThis is the only way โคto get to the highest level.”
When asked about โthe โขgreatest player in snooker history, โคO’Sullivan deferred, stating, “I don’t think anyโฃ athlete should call themselves the greatest of all time, even if they are. Everyone โขelse should decide that.” โHe rather โcredited Stephen Hendry forโค having “the greatest impact on the status โฃof โคsnooker.”
O’Sullivan also addressed his future in theโค sport, admitting the past three years had โbeen challenging. โคHowever, a recent return to enjoyment at tournaments in China and Saudi Arabia has rekindled โฃhis passion. โค”The past three โฃyears โhave not been fun for meโฆBut recently the fun has returned โagain,”โ he said. While less focused on winning or rankings, he emphasized the importance of โenjoyment, โstatingโ he hasโ “plenty of other things I want to do,” including spending more time with โhisโ familyโ andโ potentially exploringโค ventures like Chinese eight-ball pool or business โคopportunities. He hopes to continue playingโฃ for another three to five years, but will retire if the joy is lost.
Beyond the baize, O’Sullivan hasโ also authoredโ three crime novels and remains open to writing more after his snooker career concludes.
Looking to the future of the sport,โ O’Sullivan expressed enthusiasm for initiatives like “Snooker 900,” a faster-paced variant withโ 15-minute matches, and its dedicatedโ channel on Pluto TV. He believesโ these platforms are crucial for attracting โคa new โขgenerationโฃ of players, notably by showcasingโ junior, amateur, women’s, and handicapped snooker. “Iโข hope that one day I’ll turn on Snooker โฃand say: I used to watch itโ as a โฃboy on Snooker 900, or that woman started there on Pluto TV,” he stated.
