The 40th edition of the MTV Video Music Awards left us with some incredible moments worthy of mention at the UBS Arena in New York. Stars such as Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Camilla Cabello, Shawn Mendes and Chappell Roan brought the show to life with the most spectacular and original performances. Many of the guests surprised us with stunning looks (some with a story) on the red carpet and there were moments in the gala full of romanticism, such as the kiss between Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry or Taylor Swift’s speech dedicated to her boyfriend. We review the best of the night of music.

Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry’s kiss

Katy Perry was one of the biggest stars of the show. When it was time for the artist to take the stage to sing, someone very special had the honor of introducing her. Her husband, Orlando Bloom, said these words before kissing her in front of everyone present. “You fell in love with her as Katy Perry. I fell in love with her as Katheryn Hudson. You know her as a global superstar who brings love, light and her unique sense of humor to every song she writes and every music video she creates,” he continued. “I know her as a mother and as a partner and she brings that same love and joy to our family,” said the father of Daisy, four years old. After her romantic introduction, Perry performed a mix of her greatest hits and received a kiss from Orlando, followed by the award for best avant-garde video.

Singer Halsey arrived on the red carpet in an iconic Versace dress, the same one Elizabeth Hurley wore almost three decades ago, in 1996. A red and black animal print design, in which both looked spectacular. The 26-year-old appeared dressed as a gladiator in the middle of a burning medieval castle, and sang her hit single Good Luck, Babe. In her acceptance speech, she remembered her record label, her friends and family and expressed her gratitude to the drag artists, the queer people who fuel pop and her fans. “Thank you to the people who are fans, who listen to me, who hear me when I share my joys and my fears,” continued the singer, who recently expressed her moments of anguish over fame.

Karol G got everyone dancing.
