Oral Cancer Rising โคin Young Adults: Don’t Ignore Mouth Sores, Warns Oncologist
(world-Today-News.com) – Newโข Delhi, India โ- โขA โคconcerning trend is emerging in India: a rise in oral cancer diagnoses, especially among young adults. Oncologists are urging the public to beโฃ vigilant aboutโค persistent mouth soresโข and unusual patches, as early detection is now linked to a dramatically improved survival rate – exceeding 90%.
Oral cancer, a type of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC), โคaccounts for 26% of cancers in Indian โmen and 8% in women. Incidence โrates are particularly high in the Northeast, reaching 31.8 cases per 100,000 males. Nationwide, estimates suggest around 20 cases โขper 100,000 population.
“Early detection โis absolutely critical,” explains Dr. Minish Jain, Director โof Medical Oncology at Ruby Hall Clinic. “When caughtโ early, the 5-year survival rate for oral cancer is โabove 80%.However, this plummets โขto a mere 20-30% โฃin advanced stages, even with aggressiveโฃ treatment.”
