Romentino, Italy – A project aimed at bolstering family support networks in the Ovest Ticino region has exceeded initial expectations, having assisted 96 families and 160 children, adolescents and young people since its launch in September 2024. The “Family+” initiative, funded through a regional program focused on “Positive Parenting,” provides personalized educational guidance, group activities for parents and children, academic support, and assistance navigating local resources.
According to Carla Zucco, President of the Consorzio intercomunale per la gestione dei servizi socio-assistenziali dell’Ovest Ticino, the project was designed to “strengthen territorial educational networks” and offer support to families with minor children. “The figures demonstrate a significant surpassing, well in advance, of the initially foreseen objectives and, in fact, confirm the strong demand for parental support present in the territory,” Zucco stated.
The program’s impact extends to families from diverse backgrounds, with approximately half originating from Italy and the remainder representing fifteen different nationalities. A key component of “Family+” focuses on social inclusion, promoting participation in educational, sporting, and social activities deemed crucial for the well-being and development of younger generations.
Dr. Caprino, a project contributor, highlighted the importance of group activities in fostering relationships between families and building informal support systems. Specific programs have been developed for mothers with migrant backgrounds, aiming to combat social isolation and encourage community connections. The initiative is described as a preventative welfare model, intervening before difficulties escalate into crises and reinforcing a sense of community.
Valentina Bertone, Director of CISA, emphasized the project’s commitment to continuous professional development for its staff and a multidisciplinary approach integrating educational, social, and expressive methodologies.

Lido Beltrame, President of the CISA Assembly of Mayors, indicated that these events will involve institutions, services, schools, and local organizations in a comprehensive review of the project’s impact since 2024, focusing on the inclusion, socialization, and positive parenting it has fostered.
