New โฃBook Addresses Rising Needs of Aging Companion Animals
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – Aโ new Korean-language book focusing exclusively on the diagnosis and โtreatment of diseases in senior dogs and cats has been released, responding to the increasing prevalence of aging โขpetsโฃ in South Korea. “Diseaseโค Diagnosisโ and Treatmentโฃ of Senior Dogs and Cats,” a translation of the original “Diseases of Senior Cats and Dogs:โ Diagnosis and Therapy,” was published by Nonggyeong Anytech and OKVET.
Authored by European clinical veterinarian Salvador โCervantes Sala, the book provides a comprehensive guide to โgeriatric animal medicine. It โคcovers 14 chapters includingโ topics such as aging processes, nutrition, drug and anesthesia considerations for elderly patients, environmental enrichment, chronic painโข management, and specificโค conditions like chronic kidney disease, liver problems, endocrine disorders, cardiovascular and neurological diseases.
The book details symptoms and management strategies for variousโข ailments, and also addresses the emotional needs of pet owners navigating the challenges โฃof caring for aging companions – a crucial aspect for veterinarians.
“This book comprehensively covers geriatric medicine for dogsโ and cats,” stated Cervantes Sala. “Itโค is a practicalโ manual that provides clinical veterinarians and alsoโ veterinary students with โฃa variety of approaches โฃto useful details related to geriatrics.”
Translators Kangโค Byeong-wook and Park Soon-seok highlighted the unique challenges of โฃtreating older โฃanimals, noting the high expectations of owners coupled with the complexities of age-related diseases. They believe the book fills a critical gap in clinical resources for veterinarians.
“I have always felt inadequate in managing diseases of elderly โanimalsโ and responding to their owners, and any pet clinician will agree with this,”โฃ they โsaid. “I think this book isโข a good textbook that fills in all โฃthe clinical information on elderly petsโข that โveterinarians have been lacking.”
