Norway Speed Record & US Asset Sell-Off: Latest Financial News

Wall Street experienced a sharp downturn Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 5.5 percent – its largest single-day drop since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, according to CNBC. The sell-off followed the first full day of trading after former President Trump announced new tariffs, triggering widespread concern among investors.

The S&P 500 index also plummeted, declining 5.97 percent, marking its steepest fall since June 2020. The Nasdaq Composite fared no better, dropping 5.6 percent after a 6 percent decline on Thursday. The combined impact of these losses has led some analysts to declare an end to the recent bull market.

“The bull market is dead, and it was killed by ideologues and self-sabotage,” said the CEO of Bowerstock Capital Partners, in a statement to CNBC. The executive also expressed concern about the potential consequences of a global trade war on long-term economic growth.

The declines extended beyond U.S. Markets. Oslo Børs closed down five percent Friday, its largest fall since March 2020, according to NTB. The price of oil also decreased sharply, falling over seven percent to $65.50 per barrel as Oslo Børs closed. The Norwegian krone weakened against both the euro and the dollar, depreciating by 15 to 20 øre in a matter of hours.

The turmoil in global markets comes after Trump’s announcement of new tariffs, described by one Dagbladet commentator as leaving the world “lammed.” The move prompted a swift response from the Danish financial community, with reports indicating that Danish companies may be due refunds following a ruling by the U.S. High Court that Trump’s tariffs were illegal.

Recent reports from Finansavisen indicate that a Wall Street veteran is now advising clients to sell all U.S. Assets.

The U.S. High Court’s ruling against the tariffs has been described by one economic editor as a victory for democracy, but not necessarily for businesses. Danish Industry has warned that the reversal of the tariffs could potentially worsen the situation.

Grocery Deals: Save Up to 948 NOK on Your Weekly Shop in Norway

by Priya Shah – Business Editor February 17, 2026
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Norwegian shoppers are finding some relief at the grocery store, with a new analysis revealing potential savings of up to 948 kroner – approximately $88 USD – on a basket of 20 essential items this week, according to price comparison experts DinSide.

The substantial savings come as hundreds of new food products enter stores while older items are phased out, creating opportunities for consumers to take advantage of discounted prices. DinSide’s “handlekurv,” or shopping basket, focuses on identifying the best deals available across major grocery chains.

“This week’s total savings of 948 kroner is the best we’ve seen this year,” stated Truls Lea, a price hunter with DinSide. “The best buys this week include toilet paper, beef tenderloin, and salmon.”

Bunnpris emerged as the leading retailer for savings, offering prices 26.2% lower than Kiwi on comparable items, according to DinSide’s assessment. Obs received the highest rating in a separate evaluation of weekly flyers, earning a top score after delivering a total savings of 279 kroner on eight selected items.

DinSide’s price trackers, Truls Lea and Tom H. Ystaas, regularly compare prices at major chains including Meny, Kiwi, Ekstra, Rema 1000, Obs, Bunnpris, Spar, and Prix. The organization, Enhver.no, has been providing weekly price information to consumers since 2013.

Beyond the core basket of 20 items, Lea and Ystaas have also assembled a family-sized shopping list of 11 goods, estimating potential savings of 863 kroner for a family of four.

The price analysis comes amid a broader trend of rising food costs, making price comparison increasingly important for Norwegian households. “It’s becoming increasingly important to compare prices, now that prices are rising faster than most people can retain up with,” Lea noted. “We’ve seen a shift from discounts on less healthy items, like chocolate and soda, to more nutritious options.”

DinSide’s experts are currently tracking savings throughout 2026, aiming to demonstrate a total savings of 30,000 kroner for the year. After the first eight weeks of the year, they have already accumulated savings of 5284 kroner, equivalent to 660 kroner per week or 34,300 kroner annually at the current rate.

A recent example of significant savings highlighted by DinSide is a promotion at Bunnpris offering three packages of Grandiosa pizza for 60 kroner, half the usual price. Similarly, substantial discounts on chocolate from brands like Freia and Nidar are available at several low-price chains.

DinSide’s evaluation of grocery store flyers revealed that Rema 1000 received the lowest rating this week, receiving only one point on a scale of six.
