Toledo Doctor Suspended After Allegedly Forcing Abortion medication on Girlfriend
TOLEDO, OH – Theโข medical license of dr. Hassan-James Abbas, โคa surgical residentโ at the โUniversity of โคToledo, has been suspended by the State Medical Board of Ohioโข following allegations he illegally obtained abortion medication and coerced his girlfriend into taking it against her will. The โฃsuspension, effective November 5th, has also resulted in Abbas being placed on administrative leave by the university.
According to documents released byโ the medical board, the alleged incident unfoldedโ after Abbas separated from his wife in October โ2024 and โbegan a relationship โwith aโฃ woman identified as “Patient 1.” When she informedโ him of her pregnancy in December, Abbas reportedlyโ expressed a desire for โher to terminate the pregnancy, a desire she did not share.
The board alleges that the following day, Abbas โขused his estranged wife’s personalโข information – โฃwithout her knowledge or consent – to order prescription abortion medication from an out-of-state provider,โข paying for the drugs with his own credit card.
Severalโ days later, after the medication arrived, “Patient 1” spent the night at Abbas’s home. The medical โขboard’s reportโค detailsโข a disturbing account of Abbas allegedly overpowering the woman and โforcibly โadministering the crushed medication by โขholding her down and inserting it into herโ mouth.
The woman reportedly fought back,โ managing to โescape andโ attempt to call 911,โฃ but Abbas allegedly took the phone and disconnected theโ call. She subsequently sought medical attention, โคwhere she was documented as an assault victim.
During an interview with the State Medical Board, Abbas admitted to most of the allegations, including obtaining theโ medication and administering it to his girlfriend. However, he disputed the manner in whichโฃ the drugs wereโ ingested,โค claiming sheโข had consented to taking them. He also admitted โฃto discarding the remaining pills outโ of his car window on โขhis way to work.
As of today,no criminal charges have been filed against Abbas.
The University of Toledo confirmed it is โคcooperating with theโ examination, stating, “The matter under investigation โคby the state is unrelated toโข his role โat UToledoโฆ UToledo holds its employees to the highestโข standards of professional conduct andโข will cooperate with the state medical โboard’s investigative processes.”
Dr.โ Abbas has โuntill December 5th โขto request a hearing โregarding the โsuspension ofโ his medical license. โข
