Maceiรณ Celebrates Nutritionists‘โ Vital Role in fueling Student Success
Maceiรณ,โ Brazil – This Sunday, augustโฃ 31st,โ marks Nutritionist’s Day, and the Municipal Secretariat of Education โค(Semed) โof Maceiรณ is spotlighting โthe critical contributions of nutrition professionals โto the โwell-being and academicโค performance of its students. A dedicated team of 20 nutritionists are working diligently to ensure healthy, quality meals are servedโ across the city’s 158 schools and early childhood education centers.
The scale of this operation is significant. Each day, these professionals oversee the preparation and distribution of 119,405 meals, nourishing over 60,000 students – โfrom kindergarten through adult education programs.
“The numbers trulyโ illustrate the weight of ourโ responsibility,” explains Ana Denise Gouvรชa, semed’s Nutrition โคCoordinator. “Having nutritionists embedded within the public school system is paramount. They guarantee food safety, proactively prevent illness, and cultivate โhealthy eating habits within โthe entire school community.”
More Than Just a Meal: Investing in Future Generations
The impactโ of a well-planned school nutrition program extends far beyond simply filling โฃstomachs. Gouvรชa emphasizesโ the direct link between proper nutrition โand a child’s physical and cognitive growth. “Nutritious and โขsafe menus are essentialโข for preventing conditions like obesity and malnutrition, while simultaneously boosting learning and concentration. A well-nourished child is better equipped to thrive both in school and inโ life.”
this commitment extends beyond the cafeteria. Nutritionists actively engage with school administrators, โขteachers,โฃ and families, building a network of awareness and promoting Food and Nutrition Education (EAN).โ In 2024โข alone, Semed conductedโ 78 EAN โฃinitiatives, with 41 specifically targeted at early childhood education centers.โ These efforts are integrated into all school events, โขincluding the recent Semed โคFamily farming Fair.
Tailored Nutritionโค for Every Student
Maceiรณ’s school โmenus are meticulously designed to align with the guidelines of the National School Feeding Program (PNAE), the Brazilian Foodโ Guide, and specific nutritional recommendations for children โunder two. This ensures a foundation of variety, balance, and cultural relevance.
Recognizing that every student is unique, โขthe program also prioritizes individual needs. “We utilize registration data and dedicated โforms to identify students with allergies, intolerances, chronic illnesses, and other dietary requirements,” explains Gouvรชa. “This allows us to adapt menus and ensure equitable access to nutritious mealsโ for all, as mandatedโค by PNA
