Munichโ – โ Bavarian Minister-President Markusโข Sรถder is renewing his call for aโข shift in Germany‘s energy policy, advocating for the construction of gas power plants, continued use of nuclear power, and domestic resource extraction. Sรถderโ argues these stepsโ are crucial for economic recovery, criticizing current policies asโ “dishonest” and damaging to German competitiveness.
Despite claims that nuclear power offers โฃinexpensive energy, Sรถderโ maintains its necessity,โฃ even as former nuclear reactor โoperators โคpoint to costs of up to 49 cents per kilowatt hour, making it the most expensive form โof electricity โคgeneration. He โคalso criticized state subsidies for renewable energy and gas, stating, “We are driving down energy prices with state โขmoney rather of relying on cheap generation.”
Sรถder highlighted what he โseesโ as contradictions in Germany’s energy sourcing, notingโ the โcontry imports fracking gas โfrom the USA andโฃ purchases nuclear power from France โand the Czechโค Republic while simultaneously โrejecting domestic gas drilling and nuclear energy. He urged theโ utilization โขofโข gas reserves in northern โฃGermany and a serious evaluation ofโ mining rare earthsโข domestically.
Echoing โCDU leader Friedrich Merz, Sรถder emphasized the need to โคprioritize competitiveness, โขwarning that โthe focusโ on electric โvehicles threatens Germany’s automotive industry and thousands of jobs. “It isโค crucial that we โคstopโ restrictingโ ourselves,” โคhe stated.
